    Hi Andy,

Thanks for applying to the mighty 44th. You will receive your in-game invite next time you log in.

Join our 44th chat channel “44th-diplo” by typing the following into the chat window: /channel_join 44th-diplo.

This is used to communicate with our 44th Fleet, 44th Delta Fleet, 44th Gamma and our 44th Assault Squadron (KDF) – we don’t use the in-game fleet channel. We are four fleets acting as one.

As a new 44th Fleet Ensign you will be stationed for 6 weeks in the 44th Gamma Fleet, (KDF’s go directly to our 44th Assault Sqn). For a promotion to Lieutenant and fleet store unlock you just need to meet 2 requirements:

    1) Must have either logged into the game or posted on our 44th forum at least once during the review period of 2 weeks (which starts today);
    2) Must be in good standing with the fleet.

Full access to the 44th forum has now been unlocked, feel free to look around. Please bookmark this forum to keep up with Fleet news.

We are on twitter and use Discord for voice (not a requirement, but recommended).

Need some help with STO ? Check out our FAQ, starting ship builds and mechanics guide to help you on your way.

As a mature, no-drama fleet the 44th caters to casual and hard-core players, so I’m sure you’ll fit right in.

    Welcome aboard!

stepping down further into VR stuffs, a red matter capacitor can be nice. it’s like a non-consumable all-subsystem battery. i’ve also used vr tokens to buy crystalline energy torp launcher (handy if your space setup uses antiproton damage) and the zephram cochrane shotgun (physical damage is 100% shield penetration, and therefore bypasses the borg’s great strength (adaptive shielding). you should always have a weapon that has 100% shield penetration to counter them :D).

another step down to rare, i’d get a crystalline absorption matrix (again, if you’re using any ap damage in space), the V.S.S. Tanius, for a really nice admiralty card.

if you get like a whole ton of phoenix tokens, you can consider other stuff…various doffs on rare could possibly be useful to you…the uncommon tribbles and emote unlocks could be ok. but if you’re running with a budget, i’d just dump everything i could into the upgrades.

yeah, my goal when i’m opening phoenix boxes is as many upgrades as i can get :D. if i get an ultra rare or epic token, that’s cool…but it’s not really what i’m there for.

that said, i have managed to get one of each, but haven’t used either yet. i was kinda holding onto them to see if anything interesting got added. and have just kept doing so :D.

since they only put event ships into phoenix boxes, and i don’t plan to miss any more events, and they don’t really tend to make event ships must-have, i’m not sure if i’ll ever use them :X

all that said, if you do manage to get an epic token, there are some strong contenders there, depending on your preferred ship type, playstyle, etc. the ferengi nandi warship has an onboard bank/mail/exchange system, so you don’t have to go to ports to access those if you don’t want to…but you can also get a t5/t5u ferengi d’kora on the exchange for about 4.5m ec, so fairly cheaply. so that shouldn’t be the only reason you get the nandi. the kobali samasar and krenim science vessel are both fairly good looking, as is the vorgon xyfius. really, look for one that has a boff seat/console layout you like, and decide that way.

stepping down to ultra rare, the only ship that has any real utility nowadays is the risian luxury cruiser. if i remember correctly, this ship doesn’t have collisions with suns or planets in sector space, and it has an improved quantum slipstream drive, so it can be handy for tour the galaxy. if you have no other good tour the galaxy running ships. there are a good number of better tour ships nowadays, but if you don’t have one, the risian luxury cruiser could work for you. (better tour ships list: all miracle worker ships (cyclical quantum slipstream drive ftw) t5 multi-mission explorer ships (or the t6’s, if you also have the t5’s consoles…the t5 consoles are what make them good)). otherwise, all the ships here are t5/t5u, so meh.

of course, like i said, they put old event ships into the phoenix box. if you do get an epic token, you might hang onto it to see if they add a more recent event ship you didn’t get. they still have yet to add the Bajoran Interceptor, the Feh’kiri S’torr, the Vorgon Ryn’kodan, the Vorgon Ytijara, and the Breen Plesh Tral to the phoenix box. check them out. maybe one of them will interest you more than anything currently available in the box. *shrug*

ditto, if i happen to be around sometime when chanfron is not 😀

edit: well, i have the manticore and dinaes…and could put the chimera/daeinos skin on them if you cared to see them instead for some reason :X (they’re very similar ships, within their faction. the t6 is just typically built a little beefier)

my memory tells me that foundry was built and maintained by a couple of (now former) cryptic devs in their spare time. it was never a full studio push or anything like that. since then, these devs are no longer a part of the studio for one reason or another. so noone who now works at cryptic knows exactly how they built it or exactly how it works (without having to go through all their code and such, which would be time consuming…and which would, to be fair, be very low return for the studio or publisher (both of which are, let’s remember, businesses)). further compounding the issues, sto has apparently transitioned to a new graphical engine (for lighting, for one thing. i dunno lol). well, the foundry didn’t. it’s still using the old sto lighting(?) engine.

so, while i also lament the loss of user-generated content (and easy endeavors) in STO (and Neverwinter, i guess? i don’t play it, so i don’t really care about it, but i know some of us do)…i also understand the decision to just rip it out of the game wholesale. it’s either that, or pay devs (who could be working on new episode missions (which actually make the company money…through bringing back players who spend money while they’re here), or working on new expansions, or whatever else) to go through and bring the foundry’s code back up to full compatibility with the game, so they no longer have to maintain the old engine just for the foundry.

let’s be honest…there were either very few or no people who played STO exclusively for the foundry. the vast majority of us just used it for endeavors. and the foundry was a kinda fun diversion from the normal gameplay every now and then. it was also a fairly decent replacement for the exploration missions (remember those? lol). it was a good and interesting point in the game’s favor, but it was also one that would take a good chunk of money (paying for a dev’s time, missed opportunity cost from having another hand working on priority content, etc) to bring into line with the rest of the game, and one that would bring in very little appreciable return for them. add to that the likelihood that they don’t really want people just using it to blow through the new personal endeavors (and, as long as we’re being honest, to endeavor is defined as “to try hard to do or achieve something.”…cheesing through one with a specially designed mission hardly qualifies, handy though they were :D), and the fact that it can’t really be monetized, and…well…

also, let us not forget that at some point, they COULD put something like the foundry back into the game. THE POSSIBILITY EXISTS that they could pull it out to fix it up while it’s not part of the live game, and it or something like it COULD make a triumphant return at some point. i mean, i’m not holding my breath, but it could happen. *shrug*

*cough* you seem to have me ignored ingame for some reason. it’s possible that reason is a misclick or something, but the fact of it remains. since you’re not on discord, this is the only other place available to me to contact you, @CaptainKirk71.

to remove me from your ignore list, open your social window (little button with three dudes to the right of your minimap, just below your mail and just above your options menu), navigate to the “ignored” tab on the top of the window, find and highlight my name, then click “remove from Ignore List” at the bottom left of the window.

until you do so, you will be unable to see anything i say anywhere ingame.

on the other hand, Jem’Hadar Vanguards (purchased playable species) have the most potent racial traits in the game right now, so it can be worth it.

an idea if you’re doing the trivia thing weekly. make it more meta. make the weekly rewards smaller (though not too small, or the whole thing might not be intriguing for some). then, keep track of each player’s points week-to-week. and finally, maybe every couple months? or every 6 months? (i’d suggest a year, but you might not hold attention for that long) tally those points up and the top 3 get a much larger prize. (i dunno, maybe a 10 pack of keys divided 5,3,2. or maybe you could get with one of our resident space-rich and see if they’d offer a lobi ship or something *shrug* just ideas). with the longer timeframe, you could probably introduce some system (i haven’t thought of a good one yet, but i’m sure there’s one out there :D) to enable a sort of catch-up mechanic, so it’s not catastrophic for a player to miss a week due to life stuffs (which is a thing we as a fleet are highly understanding of). maybe we hold it on discord instead of ingame? even if people can’t log in to the game, discord is usually highly doable. also, discord preserves the messages, so if you lose connection or something, you don’t lose the whole conversation. *shrug*

And is there anyway to get a Free Skill Reset token will out spending Zen/Cash? I know with Champions Online you get a free one at max level.

Unfortunately no, free-to-play players have to buy them.

not entirely true…you can get 1 from each rep when you hit t6 (i understand that’s probably not a nearby prospect for you, but it is possible :D)

also, don’t forget you can convert refined dilithium to zen to purchase one if you so choose. at current exchange rate, it’d take about 101,100 refined dil to get the 300 zen you need. as you can refine 8500 dil/day now per character (8000 base, 500 extra at our fleet dil refinery), that’ll probably come around fairly quickly (at least, compared to getting t6 in any reps :D)
