I know I said that I would make a video of this, however due to the recent increase in my workload, I do not have time to make, edit, and voice videos. So I have chosen this method to hopefully help familiarize you with STO mechanics. Once you have a basic understanding of these mechanics, you will see you fun level and skill level increase and you will do better.
As I have always said, doing well in STO is 80% how you fly and 20% gear. If you do not know how to fly and use your ship, your gear can only take you so far. You have to understand the mechanics behind everything you do to get the most out of your ship and crew.
I will cover these basic mechanics in the next 2-4 weeks in seperate “lessons”. As per my usual posts, there will be plenty of pictures and links for you to look at. I will try to explain complicated things and make them easier to understand and most likely use some very creative metaphors to get my points across.
My “lesson plan” is as follows:
1. Ship Types and Choosing One
2. Ship Stats
3. Ship Equipment (Warp Cores/Singularities, Deflectors, Engines, Shields)
4. Ship Equipment (Weapons)
5. Ship Equipment (Consoles, Devices)
6. Duty Officers, Bridge Officers, Ship Traits, and Personal Space Traits
7. Flying Your Ship and Advanced Tactics
8. Dilithium, Salvage, Upgrading, and Re-Engineering
9. Captain Skill Tree and You!Depending on how these lessons are recieved, I will make more and I might even take requests. I should have one done before the weekend, so stay tuned.

April 10, 2018 at 2:29 pm #204477Update on these. I have been into build making and testing (Enterprise J and now a cloaking Sovereign) so the rest of these will be a little late. Expect the next one to come out sometime at the end of this month. Sorry for the delay!

September 13, 2018 at 3:45 pm #282867Para, I just want to say thank you so much for this. A quick read through gave me 2 things to change which has pretty much stopped me getting my backside handed to me on a plate (as much).
Now time for a real read and inwardly digest, followed no doubt by more getting my backside kicked until I improve 🙂
