but…with the “alien” option, there are infinite possible playable races. ok, maybe not quite infinite, but there’s a pretty high number of possible permutations. certainly more than can be fitted in a single image.
thanks for posting the head’s up, marcase. tentatively may have fixed it, at least to some degree.
my initial problem was this: i had 4 sticks of 4gb each. my system info window said i had “16gb RAM (4gb usable)” or somesuch.
so i went out and bought a set of 2x8gb shiny new RAM. popped them in, and my system read all 16gb as usable, so i thought that problem was done with. then, the pc started freezing fairly frequently. like, every time i booted, i’d get a few minutes of usable time, and then it’d freeze, requiring a reboot.
so yesterday, as a last ditch attempt, i took my replacement RAM back and got two sets of 2x4gb again, essentially the same ram i had before (corsair xms3), but newer models. it seems like it’s worked so far. i’ve had a couple freezes early on, but i think i can maybe attribute that to what i was doing with the pc at the time (trying to install a firmware update for my ssd) as opposed to a further hardware issue. i’m not sure, but i’m past 24 hours of consecutive uptime now, so, though i’m not unassailably confident, yay i fixed it? i think maybe the clockspeed on my shiny new ram was too high for my aging mobo to handle? dunno, just a guess. will keep y’all updated if my status changes again 😀
hiya! welcome! since you’re a pastor, i just thought i’d mention that if you join our discord (which i totally recommend, as it’s a great place to get to know folks, and also where we do our voice chat), the “Beta Radiation Room” is unmoderated and nsfw. virtually anything that isn’t a direct attack on another member (which isn’t allowed anywhere) can be posted there. the fleet is 18+, and it’s a good place to blow off steam and vent. all that said, you’re totally free to ignore the advice if you want.
heya and welcome!
heya and welcome!
hah. he did come and correct me. woo 😀
ok, some further advice.
don’t neglect your commander level tac skills. if you put three points into each of them, they’ll give you +4% CritH and +40% CritD.
now then, doffs and boffs. if i was building an acheros, i’d give my comm engineer boff an emergency power to weapons III in their ltc skill slot. The ltc universal/intel slot, i’d use for a tac boff. i’d give it a Beam: Fire at Will III for it’s ltc slot. (there’s another reason to go with beams…the tier III Fire at Will is a ltc skill. the tier III cannon: scatter volley is a comm skill). i’d also give one of my tac boffs Kemocite Laced Weaponry I in it’s ensign slot. which one is up to you. My engineer boff, i’d give emergency power to shields II in it’s lt slot. the rest of the choices are personal preference. (hell, they’re all personal preference. i’m just giving you mine right now :D).
as far as doffs go, i’d get three very rare Damage Control Engineers (the “chance to reduce the recharge time for Emergency Power to subsystem abilities” variant). now, every time you use one of your eptx skills, they’ll give you a pretty good chance to reduce the cooldown for all your eptx skills. this will allow you nearly full uptime on both your emergency power to weapons and your emergency power to shields. it’s called a “Drake build.” for my other three doffs, my preference is for three Conn Officers (reduce recharge time for attack patterns beta, delta, and omega). this way, my attack pattern beta is always available to activate when my fire at will comes off cooldown.
boffs also have traits to consider. i mentioned in my last post about Superior Romulan Operatives. in addition to increasing your CritH and your CritD, they also reduce the recharge time on your cloak ability. if you don’t have your 20% CritH rating, they’re useful. you can also go to the fleet research base and get Krenim boffs. they’ll reduce the recharge for boff skills that match their careers by…i think it’s 10% each. so if you have two engi krenim boffs, your engi boff skills will cool down 20% faster than they would otherwise. that’s a very nice thing. you can also go to the colony and get lukari and kentari boffs. personally, i use 4 lukaris myself. they have leadership (just like the human version…increases hull regen rate. not super valuable), superior efficiency (honestly, most of the reason i use them…at low power levels, it increases subsystem power. it gives me enough power so that i can (at rest, no eptx abilities running, no plasmonic leech) have my weapons subsystem maxed out, my shields above 75%, and my engines and aux power both above 50%. remember that 50% power level means full effectiveness, while 100% means double effectiveness and 15% means a good deal less than full effectiveness), and also Restorative Protomatter Specialist (increases outgoing hull healing and shield healing…so my self-heals are more effective). You can also get a Heirarchy boff (potato) from one of the delta quadrant episodes. i don’t recall which one offhand. he has the “Pirate” trait, which will increase your weapon damage by 1.5%, and efficient. he’s one of the only ways to get it for fed officers, since we don’t have easy access to nausican boffs.
lastly, i want to go into traits. specifically, starship traits. I always keep one defensive trait slotted. In my case, that trait is Honored Dead. for Feds, it’s super cheap to get on the exchange right now, and it’s pretty nice to have around. while you’re in combat, after recieving 10k cumulative damage, you get +10 all damage resist and +1% health regen. stacks 20 times, has infinite duration. so as long as you’re still in combat, you keep getting tougher. further, when you’re at 20 stacks, each further activation gives you a pretty long-duration 10k temporary hit points. so again, the longer you’re in combat, the tougher you get. the second trait i run is Regroup. i want to say it’s from the tactical pilot escort (not the allied pilot escort, the factional one). that makes it so that every time i use an attack pattern boff ability, it reduces my engi boff abilities’ cooldowns by 15%. next, i run Redirecting Arrays (this one may be swapped for something else in the future). comes from the tactical miracle worker ship. once per sec while fire at will is active, recieving any damage grants +.33s duration to faw, with a max duration of 15 sec. now, my last two are ones that i’ll probably have for a very long time. first of all, Emergency Weapon Cycle. comes from the t6 battlecruiser (the factional one…so for fed, it’s the arbiter. for kdf, it’s the kurak. for rom, the Morrigu). when i use emergency power to weapons, for 30s, it gives me -50% weapon activation cost…so it keeps my weapon subsystem power higher, resulting in more damage dealt…and 20% firing cycle haste, so my guns fire faster. super nice. and finally, i use Supremacy. comes from the vaadwaur astika battlecruiser (lobi store, 900 lobi. can also be found on the exchange). with this one, for every target i hit with cannon: scatter volley or beam: fire at will, i get +2 all power levels for 15 sec. it’s great for when you have a bunch of targets to shoot at. less good when you’re only fighting one. also nice are the Presidio’s trait, and the Vengeance’s trait, and probably some others i’m not remembering right this moment. but i’ll leave it at that for now. hope this helped 😀
you’ll probably also want to do the mission “Sphere of Influence” a couple times for the ancient obelisk warp core and omnidirectional ap beam. https://sto.gamepedia.com/Ancient_Obelisk_Technology_Set
the two piece set bonus gives you +10% ap damage, and the omni beam, since it’s a mission reward, can be equipped alongside a crafted ap omni beam and a kinetic cutting beam in your 3 aft weapon slots, and do pretty decent damage. the big thing is that it can fire forwards and hit things in your frontal 90 degree arc, alongside your dual beam banks. giving you an even stronger frontal alpha strike.
further, another goal should probably be to get the two piece nukara set bonus. personally, i use the deflector and the shields to get it. it adds 5% weapon damage. that might sound small, but it’s a category 2 damage boost, so it’s worth more than most others, even when their number is higher.
you might notice that i’m assuming you’re using beams. first, that’s because beams are my preference. cannons are fine, but i prefer beams. second, because with that ancient obelisk set, you get an omni beam. and it works with beam boosting skills, like fire at will and beam overload. you could also go cannons and fill the aft slots with turrets (which work with cannon skills like rapid fire and scatter volley), but either you lose the 10% ap bonus from the set bonus or you have one weapon that doesn’t work with your chosen boost skills. personally, i’d be annoyed with either choice if i went that way…but you’ll have to make the decision to go one of those three ways on your own. you know my choice and advice, but you’re the one who’s going to have to fly it 😀
further ap advice: keep an eye on the exchange for a https://sto.gamepedia.com/Console_-_Universal_-_Polymorphic_Probe_Array
it’s the only universal console with an ap damage boost that i know of that you’ll have access to. (the others i know about have been event rewards, so might show up again, might get thrown into the phoenix reward store, and might never be seen again. i dunno) the polymorphic probe array is a bind on equip console obtainable from the herald lock box, so someone could get one at any time and toss it up on the exchange, but i don’t see one there right now.
if you do decide to go beams, head over to the fleet’s k-13 when you have 100k fleet credits and 22k dil, find the “Biologist” npc (he’s over in the eastern room, with the xeno equipment vendor) and pick up the “Superior Beam Training” trait. it upgrades your existing “Beam Training” skill to have another…i think it’s 2.5% beam damage. if you go cannons, he also carries a “Superior Cannon Training” skill which does the same thing, but for cannon damage.
this is the last thing for this post. (the values i give here are for mk xiv epic consoles) If i remember correctly, para’s rule of thumb with crit is if you’re below 20% (or maybe it’s 25%, i can’t recall off the top of my head. perhaps he’ll correct me), stack CritH. if you’re above that, stack CritD. if you go to the fleet spire, you can buy vulnerability locator/exploiter tac consoles. they give the same damage boost as an equivalent level crafted tac console, and also give either CritH or CritD depending on which you get. when you get to lvl 2 for new romulus rep, you’ll unlock a trait that gives a passive +4% CritH. if you have some lobi, you can buy a Tachyokinetic Converter console that’ll give you 1.3% CritH and 12.5% CritD as well as a nice turn rate bonus. when you get your omega rep up high enough, you can buy an Assimilated Module console that’ll give you 1.2% CritH and 11.5% CritD…if you also have a kinetic cutting beam, the two of these will also give you a two piece set bonus, which adds a really nice proc to your energy weapons. you can also go to the fleet embassy and get some tac doffs that have the “Superior Romulan Operative” trait, which gives CritH and CritD. only the blue ones have the superior trait, so be careful of that, don’t waste your fleet credits.
i also want to give some boff and doff advice, but i’ll put it in another post so this one isn’t too too long.

Ok!
were you around for the anniversary this year to get the bajoran pilot escort and it’s awesome DOMINO console?
oh, another consideration: if you’re going to be interested in working towards getting the rest of the console set that includes the console that comes with the acheros.
one comes with the acheros
one comes from the na’kuhl lobi store ship
one comes from the na’kuhl lockbox ship
https://sto.gamepedia.com/Na%27kuhl_Plasma_Technologies_Set
if so, the set bonus boosts plasma damage. and one of the consoles deals plasma damage. so you might consider some form of plasma weaponry so that you take advantage of the boost and boost the other console’s damage even farther. plus, that’d also take advantage of the bajor defense set (which you can get 3 pieces of from a mission reward), which also boosts plasma (and disruptor, and phaser) by 33% and includes a plasma cone aoe when each of your shield facings go down. just a thought. unfortunately, plasma is the one damage type that doesn’t have a mission-reward omni beam array, so you’ll only be able to equip one plasma omni array in your aft slots.
further thought: honestly, the bajor defense set is nice enough that you might consider going for phaser, disruptor, or plasma damage just to take advantage of it. and since disruptor is strong even without it…

all that said, play what you want. any weapon type can clear all content if the rest of the build is ok. i have a piezo-polaron build on my jhdc that i quite like, so it’s not like the rest of the weapons are worthless. even tetryon isn’t bad…it’s just that it’s proc doesn’t do anything extra on top of the beam damage if your target has no shields 😀
yeah, ap has no proc, but instead has a steady critd boost, and the terran task force disruptor is the strongest weapon in the game, but you can only equip one at a time…it has a unique mechanic that increases it’s damage as your target’s hull goes down. disruptors also have the proc that reduces enemy damage resistance, which is also nice.
here:

and
https://sto.gamepedia.com/Ship_weapon
it’s a list of all the energy weapon types and their variants and their procs and stuff. accurate as of a year ago. they’ve added a couple new things since then, but not much…in fact, someone might correct me on this, but it could just be the x-linked phasers and disruptors they’ve added in that time. i’m not sure offhand :X
anyway, my impression is that ap and disruptor builds are the top dps for energy-weapon-centric builds atm.

so, my question is “why tetryon”? really, in pve, how often are enemy shields a real issue? after shields are down, the tet proc won’t do anything for you. have you considered other damage types?
like…disruptor’s proc is a resistance debuff. that’s nice. or ap, that doesn’t rely on a proc. i’m pretty sure tet is the weakest energy type in pve atm.

The acheros is a pretty agile ship itself, with a heavily armed frontal arc. And the ability to battle cloak and reposition. Honestly, I’d probably put a dual beam bank or two on the front. Oh, and make sure you have beam training slotted in your personal space traits instead of cannon training when you fly it.
