you really should look to getting a t6 when you can afford it.

between a t5-u and a t6, the differences are that the t6 has more… hull, console slots (1 more, anyway), better boff seating, specialization seats.

edit: oh, and they also can be used from the moment you finish the tutorial now.  they’ll level with you.

and last but very much not least, unlockable starship traits.

 

all that said, you should also probably do something to make yourself more combat-capable in the meantime 😀

 

do you have the t5 odyssey bundle, or just the tac variant?  asking for available consoles :).

and how’s your reputation situation? a lot of good stuff in them.

what damage type are you using?  stick to one damage type, and then you can get tac consoles that boost that specific damage type.  i’d advise phaser, disruptor, or ap.  they’re the top-tier damage types in sto right now. ap because instead of having a proc (an effect that has a chance to happen sometimes when something else happens.  in this case, they have a chance to activate once each firing cycle), it has an innate critical severity buff.  phaser and disruptor because the terran task force beams exist (which are the strongest weapons in the game because of their special effects).

Hey Allen! Welcome to STO and the 44th. We hope you enjoy your time with us.  STO gives players a lot to learn, but we’ve got people who’ve been playing since launch (on and off in some cases). If you have any questions about either the game or the fleet, feel free to ask them.  My belief is that the only dumb question is the one you don’t know the answer to and don’t ask.  Also, if you prefer self-study, the fleet maintains a really nice New Player’s Guide/FAQ  which can be found normally by looking in the top bar of the website, under “Resources”.  Also, Paradoxical, one of our Admirals, has produced some really nice guides to STO’s mechanics.  Normally found in the Builds, Powers, and Mechanics section in our forums.  The presence in one of these guides of the answer to any question does not mean you can’t or shouldn’t ask it though.

In addition to what Marcase said, I’ll issue a friendly warning:

 

Be aware if/when you donate to fleet/armada projects. Some projects (mainly weekly dil boost projects) require FLEET CREDITS in donation and give nothing in return.

I’m not sayin don’t donate to those, if that’s what you choose to do. I’m saying to be sure of what you’re donating before you hit that “OK” button.

We’ve had a bunch of newish player members who weren’t paying enough attention, saw “fleet”, and assumed that it was “fleet marks” lose credits they wanted to use for fleet gear this way.

 

Otherwise, we all hope you enjoy your time with us.  Just about everything in 44th is voluntary.  We’re hugely tolerant of people who don’t put in a whole ton of playtime.  Like the welcome post said, log into the game (or be active on our forums) at least once in the next two weeks.  After that time period, you get promoted to Lieutenant and get full access to purchase fleet gear and ships through the fleet stores.  4 weeks after that, you get promoted to Commander and earn access to transfer to one of our more-established fleets (our limits are 2 characters in 44th Fleet, 3 in 44th Delta Fleet, and no limit on the number of characters you can have in 44th Gamma Fleet (within reason)).  If you don’t log in on one of your characters in a year, it’ll be removed from whichever fleet it’s in, with the ability to return (along with your rank with us) whenever you log in on it again.  STO limits fleet size to 500 members, which is why this is necessary so we can keep room available for new members, and also why we’re up to 3 fleets on Fed side now 😀
