Greetings and salutations 44th!
We have added yet another fleet to our 44th family, the *drumroll* 44th DISCORD FLEET !
More paperwork. Yay.
First a little background. Even when vacuuming the rosters regularly, we keep ever growing and attracting new members, and we are grateful these players cross the final frontier to seek out new life, and new civilizations, to boldly blow Borg to smithereens with the rest of us.
In combination with annual STO Recruitment Events, the number of additional characters of new and veteran members will continue to grow each year, and we keep forever running out of roster space: it continues to be a juggling act getting everyone under the same starbase roof. Heck 44th Epsilon is almost maxed and only a year old (!)
I cannot emphasize this enough though, that there is ZERO difference in whichever fleet your character(s) are placed, and this includes Fed and/or KDF. This has no influence on your rank or priviliges; we just need to spread them around due to roster space.
Having said that, the newest and lowest level fleet is always best suited for brand new characters since there are the most lucrative fleet projects, so we will start asking/inviting/moving new characters to 44th DISCO from now on.
However, the most important thing we need to do now is giving our new fleet a proper name.
Post YOUR suggestion on this thread with a short (!) description/reasoning. The Admiralty will then shortlist and submit them to a popular poll which can be votet on by every 44th fleet member. Additionally, if your suggestion makes it to the poll, you will earn a unique forum ribbon!
There is only one rule: the name has to start with 44th.
This thread will run for about a week from September 12th-18th.

44th Discord Fleet. For a couple of reasons.
1. We’re a Discord Fleet (I Think).
2. Over the last few years, the 44th discord server has gone from primarily an non asset to the major social component of our fleet. Let’s represent that in game.
3. We could leave it as is, no need to change anything, super simple.
4. It would break with the traditional Greek naming conventions and inject a bit of fun into our naming structure.
5. It’s definitely recognizable among all the knockoff 44th fleets that exist.
To this end I suggest we have a bit of fun and just leave this fleet name as is. Let’s not beat all our fleet names into a boring ass line. Tradition and uniformity is great and all, but we all need one fleet to buck the trend.

Initially, 44th fleets were named after the STO expansions they were commissioned for. 44th Delta came into existence at the time of the Delta Rising expansion (and the addition of the Delta quadrant). 44th Gamma, when Victory Is Life happened (and added the Gamma quadrant).
Epsilon, we had a naming suggestion and voting period, just like we are for (the fleet currently named) Discord fleet, and 44th Epsilon Fleet won.
I am leaning to the idea of the 44th Nu Fleet, seeing as it is our “Nu-ist” fleet :p but I would like to offer up this name.

I’m kind of liking the temporal theme others have posted, so my suggestion is a simpler version of that: 44th Temporal Fleet.
I also like the discord name. Could even combine the two: 44th Temporal Discord Fleet.

Yeah. In an ideal world where STO fleets had unlimited roster size, we’d have only two fleets. One Fed, and one KDF. However, in this world, roster sizes are limited to 500 characters each. So to give everyone’s characters a home and to be able to continue to accept new members, we need to constantly expand. As now.
I don’t know why Alpha and Beta were skipped.
This was something I too wondered, at least about Beta (I figured the main 44th Fleet was implicitly the alpha fleet), and just learned the answer recently: Delta and Gamma fleets were named such not for their progression in the Greek alphabet, but because they were created to accommodate characters for prior Delta Recruitment and Gamma Recruitment events.
In principle, I like the idea of having themed fleets, such as a temporal fleet for the new one, a Romulan/Vulcan reunification fleet, maybe fleets with other reputation-related themes (e.g. an anti-Borg fleet, an anti-Undine fleet, etc.) but I realize that we would have problems properly balancing numbers of characters across fleets going that route.
Still, I would suggest something like 44th Temporal Defense Fleet, 44th Temporal Task Force, or 44th Temporal Vanguard for the new one.
