This is how we communicate between our (4) Fed and (2) KDF fleets. It isn’t a rule or requirement, but things will seem very quiet in the fleet without it.

Discord and the Beta Radiation Room revisited

1 year, 4 months and 23 days ago the 44th Fleet held a forum vote on what to do with the Beta Radiation room on our Fleet Discord Server. Here is a Link to that conversation / vote for anyone who is not familiar with or needs a refresher for that chapter in the 44th’s history.

At the end of that forum thread I stated: “And this is the final word on the subject of keeping the Beta-Radiation room around.” Clearly I was mistaken and probably guilty of some wishful thinking as the Beta Radiation room is once again under review by the Admiralty. When it comes to this topic it is always a complicated conversation because so much about it is subjective.

Anyway, for those who aren’t sure what the Beta Radiation room is, here is the Discord description. And no…you don’t need to run off to join it…. it is not a place for the faint of heart…heh

This is essentially the Not Safe For Work (NSFW) room on the 44th Fleet’s Discord server. We set things up so that members have to type in the command “!joinbeta” in order to see the room and post in there. So…by joining, you essentially agree that you’ve entered under your own accord and have accepted the risk of possibly being offended by something posted there.

That being said, there are rules and guidelines for Beta Radiation as you can see above. So, it isn’t quite “anything goes”.

However, there have been observations by fleet members and an official fleet member complaint recently, regarding some of the content posted in Beta Radiation which has started the ball rolling on discussions among the 44th Fleet Admiralty.

I know the following is a lot of reading, but I felt the need to post Discord’s official Community Guidelines here for reference. As a part of the Discord community, 44th Fleet does its best to abide by these guidelines and as such takes them very seriously when it comes to our own Discord Server.

 

Again, I apologize for the word wall, but after seeing / reading all of the Discord Community Guidelines, you can see why the Beta Radiation room is currently being discussed…. especially if you have ever been in there. Basically, things simply can not continue as they have.

So, within the next couple of days, fleet leadership will be announcing a plan to address the Beta Radiation room issue.

As always, if you have input you would like to share, you may do so in the thread below or in a private message. There will of course be an opportunity later for all fleet members to weigh in before we take any action, so stay tuned for more information in the next couple of days.

Well, as far as the BR Room. As a ex-sailor there is not much that bothers me, and I joined the room. I do not post there or much anywhere on Discord, but times are changing.

I can remember a time were calling a young woman “sweetheart” would not cause a pause in conversation. But now, wrongly or rightly for some people it is offensive.

This is something I have to deal with everyday, as a Supervisor and a Security – Is what I am going to say going to be offensive? So we need IMO to take a serious look at the need and access to the BETA RADIATION ROOM, what I would suggest is tighten up the access for one.

Maybe only for Fleet members of 6 months or more, after all sometimes some of the stuff on there can even make me wonder about some of the postings. My other concern if the room causing a split in the Fleets as a whole i.e. where a member or members of the Fleet find something posted that causes a old sh*t-storm like a certain YouTube person, or the Fleet as a whole be branded as non-politically correct of some type.

But it is up to command, if it gets to offensive for me I will quit the room and leave it at that and that would take some really bad!!
