    Greetings fleet,

Some STO news from the recent Star Trek Las Vegas convention which I think you will find interesting, courtesy of the Priority One Podcast crew, who interviewed the STO devs at ST-LV.

Keep in mind that the following is subject to change.

Starting of the celebrations around the 30th anniversary of The Next Generation, there will be a TNG-themed seperate Featured Episode Sept 12th, “Beyond the Nexus, starring Geordie LaForge (Levar Burton)
It will include the new revamped Galaxy-class interior, a new Type-7 shuttle and ‘other’ TNG features.

This interior will be made available and be useable aboard all Federation starships – so you can even decorate your (much smaller) Defiant escort with it if you like. It’s similar to the Belfast/Defiant bridge costume option.

Speaking of costumes, Season 14 give-aways will include (drumroll) the Skant ! Yes the man-dress will make its official entry into STO.
Another give-away will be a playable Type-7 shuttle. It might include a unique shuttle-only item (shuttle shield/eng or deflector).

Season 14 will go live coming October, starting with the another featured episode “Melting Pot“. How many total episodes will be in S14 is unclear for now.

Both Featured Episodes will probably offer the usual 3pc ground/space set requiring to re-play them as per usual.

“Melting Pot” will be interesting as it will more than likely introduce the new fleet holding.

The new fleet holding will be a planetary base on an island/archipelago ground map (think mini-Risa) consisting of main buildings and seperate stations such as hydroponics, solar generators and even a coral reef – will we finally be able to dive/swim ?
This fleet holding will be geared to reuniting the Lukari and Kentari, and solving their differences/conflicts and collecting resources to build a new world.

The fleet holding island is a large exterior ground map which will also be used for a new fleet action queue or perhaps a 20-player event, where you have to hold the beach against attack waves of Tzenkethi.
There was a mention that a fleet-owner would be able to trigger it, which would be interesting.

The coming fleet holding will also be a large one, consisting of 5 tiers instead of the regular 3, and will require “starbase level amount of resources” to fill it’s 3+1 sub tracks, but will give “lots of rewards“, including a lot of new ground gear. Like most of Season 14, this fleet holding will also be (ground?) Engineering focused.

On that, the current captain engineering skill Miracle Worker will be renamed, as a new cross-career “Miracle Worker” ability will be introduced. Besides that S14 will also introduce other new Captain and Boff powers, and of course the usual new lockbox.

    Some other general STO titbits:
The Skill tree might get an review again, as the recent threat/taunt mechanic nerf, threatening stance and the Embassy Science consoles will get an overview. I doubt however that will be conducted anytime soon, if at all.

The current Endeavor system will be expanded, with other and more different challenges, and will remain to be account based (only have to complete on 1 toon).

STO is going to do something similar to a queing system that is currently in Neverwinter, where you can sign up for say a stack of four missions and get a random extra one to accomplish, which will give a bonus reward if you complete all five. This to promote the less popular missions/episodes, in an effort to highlight other missions besides the quick and easy Crystalline, Red Alerts and ISA etc.

I personally like this, as only logging in to grind / farm for marks is a sure way to game-burnout.

Beyond that, future plans are the same as always, with plans for the current crafting system is to be ‘expanded’, with more options for choosing/influencing mods, more customization. But you can consider that ‘beyond the wormhole timeline‘. So not so soon.

The recent teaser-trailer also showed a Dominion fleet approaching Deep Space Nine – this expansion (14.5?) is slated to go live during the Summer of 2018, and hopefully include the long-awaited DS9 revamp/update. Do not count on any Cardassian arc or playable faction – just not going to happen according to the Devs, because Cardassia is already (too) close to Bajor/DS9, they (rightfully) want to avoid turning Cardassia into a ‘dead map’ like Andoria and they already did a rebuilding story with the Romulan arc.

    I can agree with that.

There was also some Discovery news, but nothing new that isn’t out there already. What did peaked my interest is that many skeptics at ST-LV seemed to have turned around after listening to the Discovery panel there, which is a feat in itself since some critics (without having seen ANYTHING of Discovery even) bashed the series before it even aired. First episode is slated to go on air in September, so we’ll have to wait and see.

Expect ‘something’ from STO when Discovery launches, probably some small give-away to celebrate the launch of a new Star Trek series.

That’s it, if there’s anymore, we will post it here (and so can you guys if you find something).

    Cheers all
