Between watching the new show, and just thinking Trek in general, an idea came across me and thought I would throw it out there to see what people thought and if anyone would be interested.  So here it is……

So Starfleet Captains are essential given command of a ship by someone up the Starfleet food chain.  As in “Hey, I’m the Admiral.  Commander, I want to promote you to Captain and assign you command of the U.S.S. Whatsitsname.” ….something along those lines.

Idea:   Being assigned a ship by command

Possible guidelines to obtain at least a ship you are accustomed to:

    • Provide command with your area of expertise.  This could include your branch (Tac, Eng, Sci) and also what your captain specializes in, in a sense.  That could include Warfare, Intelligence, Special Operations (escorts),  Command, Exploration, etc. (cruisers), or Research, Exploration, Scientific studies (science ship).  Of course anything you specialize in could be included in some type of RP resume without using any specific words I just mention.  (Or it could simply come down to making a request for a ship type, but that would greatly take away from the RP element that could be explored for captains).
    • Ships:  Create a list of ship names (not on registry unless a someone wants to throw there ship name into the pool) and select ship hulls.  This could be done by project manager/Admirals to create the names, NCC#’s (not used), and what ship class to assign it to.  Ship classes can be chosen at random.  If you are limited to what ships you can buy or what ships you have, a participate could outline this when applying.  That way if you broke or limited but want to participate you can.

So with that being said, if it is something that garners enough people to want to do this we can start the process up with Captain applications (short bio to help Command assign), being in depth or short as you want.

Once a certain number is reached at least for initial, TBD if project is a go, Ships can then be “created” and assigned.   Then for those wanting to participate after the initial number created, Command can then just assign on a ship by ship basis.

For my thoughts added to what I already laid out, I say if we can at least somewhere between 5-10 fleet members needed to start to create at least some type of mix up to it.  We can use this page, or create another topic, for applications if the project receives blessing to move forward.

I also think we should add something to give Captains the option for transfer.  Say, 6 month-1 year service before making a request for different assignment.

Also on new ship release, we could create a ship for the newest design and post the opening for applications?  Then have someone in command select a Captain for it’s command.

Your thoughts?  Also please post if you are interested.  I will give it some time for people to “sign up” before moving anything forward.

Here is a list I have complied thus far if interest peaks of ships to be “commissioned” by Fleet Admiral Marcase in need of command assignments.  It is a WIP for NCC#’s/narrowing down class.

    U.S.S. Endurance / Sovereign class NCC-91150(ship patch)
    U.S.S. Defiance / Galaxy class NCC-74xxx
    U.S.S. Endeavor / Chimera/variant class NCC-95xxx
    U.S.S. Sentinel  / Avenger class  NCC-97xxx
    U.S.S. Sunbreaker / Arbiter class  NCC-98xxx
    U.S.S. Timberwolf / Akira class NCC-91040(ship patch)
    U.S.S. Yorktown / Yorktown class  NCC-xxxxx
    U.S.S. Kitty Hawk / Concorde/variant class NCC-xxxxx
    U.S.S. Carolina / Cruiser/Light Cruiser  NCC-42050-A
    U.S.S. Paladin / Resolute/variant class NCC-xxxxx
    U.S.S. Horizon / Guardian class NCC-9xxxx
    U.S.S. Archer / Nova/variant class NCC-87xxx
    U.S.S. Kodiak / Andromeda/variant class  NCC-98xxx
    U.S.S. Celestial / Vesta/variant class  NCC-89xxx
    U.S.S. Galactica / Alita/varaint or Jupiter class NCC-9xxxx
    U.S.S. Melbourne / Sutherland/Nebula class  NCC-xxxxx
    U.S.S. Lexington / Archon class  NCC-10xxxx
    U.S.S. Achilles / Hestia/variant class  NCC-xxxxx
    U.S.S. Saratoga / Sovereign class  NCC-82xxxx
    U.S.S. Atlantis / Pathfinder/variant class NCC-xxxxx
    U.S.S. Sun Tzu / Valiant/Defiant class NCC-xxxxx

As you can see I would be offering up 2 of my ship namesakes for assignment that have ship patches with them.  If can’t garner enough interest in a minimum number of members will to RP this, could compile the list and just allow Marcase to assign commands as interest parties come along.

I know people are attached to their ships, so didn’t expect this to receive a crowd at the door, but geez I figured there would be more people out there wanting to make this feel more like the real deal haha.

I like the idea, but I’m not sure how it really adds much to immersion.  Other than a little creative writing and switching ship types, what is the end game?

What might be cool is trying to come up with some foundry missions that weave this in.  For instance, maybe the first mission is reporting to ESD, getting a briefing from Fleet Admiral Marcase, and being dispatched on a mission in your new ship.  Could maybe come up with some group content as well.  Maybe we could weave it into fleet events or make some movies for the youtubes of us getting our RP on?

It might also be cool to come up with a standard format for captain dossiers.

Just spit balling.  I really like the idea, just think it needs a bit more meat to draw in some participation.

Yea, I agree Caine.  There is a lot that can be done with this for RP to spice things up.  I really like your ideas, all them.  I didn’t put too much meat into it without seeing if anyone would be interested in the premises of being assigned a ship for RP.   I tried coming up with some good ship names (even if common ones) to lure the fleeties in.

Throw what meat you want, I think this is best suited as a group effort.  After all, I’d be participating as well and the more meat to it the better.   I like RP side when it comes to this game, but I’m far from being the best at it.

After years on the game the grind to max out as fallen out with me as long as my gear gets me where I’m going decently, so I tend to look in the RP direction.

I think it might be fun, I haven’t done RP in a long time but I was actually just feeling the need to start writing again, so this could be a good way to jump back in.

I also just purchased a new Xindi-Aquatic Narcine Dreadnaught Carrier to mess around with, could make for an interesting RP on why I’m getting assigned and Alien ship :).

Later today I might try to start this up in another topic.  Turn it into a case by case basis for any members who want to do it and Roleplay an assignment to a ship for RP purposes within the fleet.   I will be participating naturally since it was my idea.
