Hey Captains,
With the new ships out and upgrades and such. I was thinking that everybody could give his little review about certain ships they upgraded/bought. Tell why you bought it and if you are enjoying it. It will help others making their decisions as well.
October 15, 2014 at 8:14 am #161052Upgraded ships:
ROM
Fleet Ar’Kif – My favorite Romulan ship – 5 tac consoles, 1 hangar bay, good turn rate. Much better choice for dhc than Dreadnought. I would have picked Dreadnought if I have some good beams or dbb on this toon but at this time I don’t want to invest in it as I will eventually get Intel Romulan ship.KDF
Fleet Mogh – 5 forward weapons, great for dhc setup, I just love to fly this ship, much more than Avenger on Fed side. With additional console slot I can equip console that has bonus to resistance and turn rate to go with my choice of dhc and save me from increased difficulty. I’ll fly this one until I managed to get Mat’Ha.FED
I have few lockbox ships on this character so wanted to fly them at launch of DR because they got free upgrade. Cardassian Galor is my first choice because it can have defensive setup while still offering good firepower. This ship gave me option to unlock Spiral Wave disruptors which are amazing – especially when I upgrade them. I tried
Wells too but I couldn’t do much in CSA as enemies were really powerful and I didn’t spent enough time to outfit it properly. With 5th Sci console it can get nice boost to sci powers if outfitted properly. I’ll do it during the weekends when I’ll have more time as I want to do some story missions now. Plan is to go with ships from DR pack eventually when I manage to get them, not sure which one will I fly in the end.October 15, 2014 at 3:15 pm #161051rich68Fleet MemberRom- My Lobi Adapted Tal’ Shiar Battle Cruiser. It just FEELS like a battle cruiser if you get my meaning, plus i think it looks good. It can take a pounding and has good hull strength. May not be really fast in turning but i’ve seen a lot worse in supposedly better ships and it’s not supposed to be as fleet as a gazelle anyway. Upgraded it to T5-U last night and hopefully i’ll get it upgraded with better gear later on.
Have 4 AP MKXII DBB on the front of it atm, and the KCB, Romulan Hyper-plasma torpedoes, Harp’neq(?) torpedoes and a plasma torpedo launcher on the back. (At least till i can get something better)
Tried the new Faeht intel ship and it’s fast and manueverable, but not as durable as the battle cruiser.
KDF-Liking the new Qib battle cruiser so far but haven’t really took it through it’s paces yet. Was having fun with the Garumba as a cannon ship as it’s fast and agile, which makes it a good scout or escort i think.
FED-Not really high on this side yet on my alts, but like the constitution refit so far. (Exeter class?) Have the new T6 Fed ships for when i get that high in levels, but i think they’ll have plenty of info by then on what they can and cannot do.October 16, 2014 at 1:12 pm #161047I grabbed a DR Pack and plan on running all of the ships across my toons eventually. I’m focused on getting my main to 60 at the moment. I’m using the Phantom to start for three reasons:
– I am an escort jockey at heart, I love speed and maneuverability. Even the Nebula I used in the Fleet Olympics could out maneuver some escorts lol.
– The Phantom’s layout was similar to my Mobius.
– Reciprocity has some interesting potential for building around. If there are no limits to the reduction, then this could be an A2B level passive with no drawback. When I get to tier 5 ship mastery and play around with the build, I’ll write a full review. As it stands, it’s a much improved Defiant. And it looks great in non-Intel skins.

October 17, 2014 at 7:14 pm #161048Aelahl Battle cruser
A real battle cruiser in ever sense of the name it has a high hull shield modifier of 1 yet comes with a turn rate of 10 which is more than enough to run cannons if you want. Its Boff layout allows it to put out a decent amount of DPS while still being tankey. Its biggest drawback is that is only has 3 tac console slots when most Klingon battle cursers have 4 but I’m assuming that its 4th tac will cone with the fleet version and if it does than I will be willing to call this my favorite Romulan Star ship (although the scim might still do more DPS)
EDIT: just got the starship mastery with it, in one word worthless.

October 17, 2014 at 9:20 pm #161049KDF – T6 Qib Intel Battlecruiser
My initial impression of this ship is that it flies like the Tor’kaht. I have only had 2 runs in this one with each sci and tac and both performed well. Don’t really know the tactics with the new intel abilities yet but so far, I’m open to the ideas. AND, this ship has Battle Cloak! More tac favorable with its consoles but I have a feeling some of the intel abilities utilize sci skills like particles… I wonder… testing to come…

I’m think about getting this ship i loved the Defiant with the active sensor arrays and optional intel setting it looks good. If i my ask how well does the heavy lance work and what is it cool down?
October 17, 2014 at 1:06 pm #161053Hazari Destroyer:
I purchased this little beaut for 900 lobi and I can’t recommend it enough, it’s a tasty little pocket rocket with all the advantages of both T5U and T6 rolled into one. Mastery gives you 10% on damage when healing friendlies.
Doff layout is what Ive alwasy wanted, allowing me to have a tac/eng heavy build with a grav well, that had basically put me off playing CCE for a year or so!
At first I didn’t like the console, it seemed like a defense version of the xindi experimental weapon, but for a third of the team. But my views have changed, this things a lifesaver.
In fact, my only real complaint is that the game wouldn’t let me pick ‘the Cleveland Steamer’ as its name. A real disappointment for sure there. Maybe they could have done a little better with the model, I cant remember the on screen version, but this looks a little too much like they have put a Jem Dread on an exercise routine and added a few Hirogen bits here and there.
I give it a 9.5/10, although I feel it wont be so attractive when more lockboxes and fleet t6 come out.

Honestly, I trash clicky power c-store consoles on sight. Now passive ability consoles, those are pure gold. Too much of a min/maxer I guess.
The Intel abilities are great, especially once I slotted the three in my space bar trays.

October 18, 2014 at 6:48 pm #161055Min/Maxer? I’m a terrible player and still opt for a the passives. Persistent beats the hell out of one hit wonders; You can always depend on them.
October 19, 2014 at 8:54 am #161056Eclipse: Meet the highest DPS T6 FAW cruiser Fed side. With a couple Intel powers slotted, and Reciprocity, this thing is brutal. She features a full suite of debuffs and even more weapon overcapping. Also, never underestimate the power of even a basic cloak.
*The big advantage with Reciprocity is the design space it opens up with doffs. So I ran: 2 Techs , APB heal SDO, WCE cleanse, Fab Eng, Marion.
Scryer: By the time I had hoped into the Scryer I had reached T3 Intel specialization. In that category I picked up getting flaking damage, and wow was that a great idea. So I fitted some DBBs with BO, lots of exotic particle spam, and appropriate doffs. Then I went into Beta Thoridor and unleashed hell.
Position on flank, decloak, hit with every ability. It didn’t seem that my Grav Well got flaking, but my TBR sure did. And if you think Ionic Turbulence is hilarious to hit NPCs with, add Grav Well and TBR and you have a space seizure rave dance party ball. Get a few ships with these abilities and you get a space blender of death.
*I ran 2 DCE, 2 Deflector, Aftershock, A2SIF Placate
Now on to the Dauntless.

October 21, 2014 at 1:43 pm #161057I got the DR pack and can’t say which is my favorite yet. I really like them all. I find I am playing KDF and Romulan more often. the Eclipse and Dauntless are probably my favs on Fed side……so far. 🙂
update: Qib Intel Battlecruiser for KDF…..an absolute beast.
October 22, 2014 at 3:34 am #161058My DR pack cleared so I got a whole box full of cool toys today :). Honestly I’m feeling a bit confused. Wit so many characters and so many possibility’s I’m going to continue keeping it simple and playing around with a couple 5us on some of my favorite ships, focus on amping up my research levels and finishing rep from the old content.
I was pretty quiet this week waiting on my DR order but when I was on I found what they did to the PvE content pretty intimidating. Participated in a terrible Pug that left me with a really foul taste in my mouth.
I’m really liking the upgrade on T’Shroy’s Intrepid and Ba’el’s tor’kaht still makes me happy. The highlight of the new stuff for me so far is the intel outfit! I thought it looked pretty sad in the pics; hated the ,”wish I was in the matrix” look. The short coat looks awesome. The textures in either case are actually quite beautiful and the whole ensemble looks amazing once it is recolored; Outfits like these make me glad I bought so many outfit slots :).
The thing I’m liking least is the price of cats. It’s been a week and those clowns still want almost a million for uncommon cats. Even worse for rares and VRs! Goblyn could be well represented by the grey tabby (u) but poor Reya is black and white so that may be a ways off. I could afford it but it’s wasteful considering the bottom is going to fall out of the cat market soon enough.
I really want to take that raptor out of the garage in the near future; The articulated wings strike me as a nice nod to BoPs. Apart from the bow/saucer it’s a fine looking ship.
October 22, 2014 at 12:03 pm #161059I just bought my DR pack yesterday all with in-game earned dili/zen. And yes, I’m pretty proud of myself, considering I also lost a lot of dili doing the Upgrade lottery. The dili I lost there hurt, big time. But I did it!
After a few runs and some time spend checking all the bells and whistles out, I have to say that the DR pack is a good deal; especially at a ‘mere’ 12,500 zen, compared to the 16,000 zen of the LoR pack. Some T-6 ships are 3,000 zen alone so getting the full pack was a no-brainer (granted, I had the luxury of having the zen after saving for +6 months)
So far, the ships are nice. Not “OMG T6 ships are OP!” nice, but nice. I too was a bit shocked by the steep increase in difficulty of the new Advanced / Elite queues and was royally annoyed that my Vesta, Fleet Avenger and Scimitar had actual trouble doing STFs and even vanilla content (on Elite). Don’t expect these T-6 ships to just replace your curent ships and jump in and stomp Elite content though – I still feel that T-5U ships will actually outperform them DPS wise.
Just 2 quick ship reviews, the others I’ll come back to later.
Btw the Intel ships can swap parts, mostly engines and not the saucer, but it’s a nice touch. The option to use ‘classic’ Fed white colors is a relief.
The Scryer I like, since I’m a cruiser fanboy and a sci-freak at that. Low on Tac Boffs, heavy on Sci slots, no surprises there. It lacks however System Analysis, but has instead build-in Intel powers which really work pretty much the same; keep your target locked and after enough stacks you can ‘target’ shields, weapons or engineering.
I prefer the old SA because that’s just Lock and move on – here you have to keep an eye on the counter so you can target a subsystem, or it’s wasted.
The Scryer is without a doubt a ‘true’ Intel cruiser, with more than enough intel boff seats to have enough tricks to be fun. Fav Fed ship so far.The Eclipse is okay; it seems to miss that little extra Oomph to make it a true T6 (assault) cruiser, which in turn would’ve made it a worthy replacement for the Sovereign and Excelsior. Perhaps that’s the Guardians job though.
It’s certainly no Avenger however. For an ‘intel cruiser’ the Eclipse lacks the number of intel slots that would warrant the “intel” designation, too few unique powers to be usefull. It feels to me it tries to be both a full cruiser and specialists intel boat, yet failing both. Jury is still out on this one. It’s turns well enough for cannons and the build-in (standard) cloak is nice – hurray for Embassy Roms. The unique consoles on all ships are nice, but I don’t see myself keeping them slotted forever. No game-changing ‘must haves’ so far.
Overall, the new ship intel powers are… different. I have a hard time saying good-bye to our beloved A2B and EPTx builds. Devs mentioned somewhere that the intel powers would change game-play and make us more ‘creative’ re ship builds. There is a lot of nice new trickery, but replacing the solid mechanics of A2B / EPTx is a tough job – I don’t see it happening with Intel powers tbh. Some Intel powers sound better than they are; the “transport warhead” is nothing more than a subsystem attack (think phaser-like) with a timer, and can be cleansed with Tac team, so pvp is out for this one.
The DR’s 3 Intel Boffs (Tac, Eng and Sci) are very nice, with new trickery to make them intereseting enough to take them with you on away missions. You get another Hierarchy Intel Bof from the episodes, so you have a full away team’s worth.
The 3 included Doffs are okay, with new powers that are nice, but again not a replacement for either Technicians / DCEs or even Torp Doffs. There is a Damage Ctrl Eng with an Aux2Sif ‘confuse’ ability, but that didn’t seem to be that effective. In fact, a lot of Intel powers are confuse or placate, but of course the catch is that they stop working after x-amount of damage, which is too easily reached.
The uniforms are indeed nice, and maybe something I would’ve bought seperately if they weren’t included. I’m a sucker for animated glasses, belt and wrist displays.
On a scale of 1-10, I’d give the DR pack a 7.5. It’s a nice-to-have, not a must-have pack.
In hind-sight, I’m glad I saved for the pack and didn’t pay for it (the money saved I use for lockbox keys and skimpy unifors; you know, the important stuff :))
I’m anxiously awaiting the Fleet versions of the ships included, hoping they will fix the short-comings that these T-6 imho still posses.Cheers
"Boldly bashing Borg to bits since 2012..."October 22, 2014 at 4:22 pm #161060I too bought my DR pack with farmed dilithium. I’m holding off on upgrading for a while (though my consoles have been upgraded). I’ll just buy Mk 14 fleet weapons when the come around, or hope they do an upgrade event.
My general tip to everyone with the DR pack: grind out T5 ship mastery of the Phantom. Reciprocity is a fantastic passive. The Scryer and the Eclipse look much better once you realize that all your tac abilities can be at global cooldown (as if you ran 2 copies) without the use of A2B. The Scryer is a little lacking, but if you think about it as having up to 6 tac boff abilities, it seems a little better.
More food for thought: Think that A2B+DEM+EPtW+Marion+FAW+APB is powerful? Add Safety Override 2 and Ionic Turbulance 2, along with Intel abilities and you’ve got yourself even more damage. The Guardian can’t do all this while the Eclipse can. Safety Override also helps with cannons – 160+ weapon power is very nice overcapping for DHCs.
The Phantom itself, is hands down the best escort Feds have available to them. Again with Reciprocity, that’s 7 (or 8) tac and Intel abilities on global. Run cannons and a BO3/TS3 with EPtX and A2D and you have a PvP/PvE elite queue ready hitter. Run a FAW beamscort (DEM Marion and such) and you have a perfect storm against mobs.
