    To the 44th:

I am currently being processed at the Academy for deployment. I went through the academy several years ago, but was pulled away for a diplomatic envoy due to personal family history.

I understand that I need a Letter Of Recommendation to join the 44th, and if you could provide one, I would be honored.

One note on my abilities, I have never been very adept at the fast movements required for dogfighting, so I know I will not be in an Escort. I was wondering what area the 44th needed help in so that I could concentrate in that area.

    Salute,
    Future Ensign Endyl Arylon

    (OOC:)
Hi team, I’m currently DLing the game and am back after a year or so hiatus. I am ready to submit my application, i’m just waiting to ensure my name will be available.
I’m not good at DPS classes, so I was wondering if you needed specific tanks or healers.
Also, if I were to go Tank/Healer, which one would be the “easiest” to play and still be helpful in PVE/PVP. I’m adaptable to either role.
I RP a little, but generally just love to enjoy gaming as a whole.

    Thanks again
    Jason

Note: I am a self-professed min-maxer. There isn’t a need for a “healer” type class in PvE, PvP is a different matter altogether. You might try a tac captain in a cruiser, which has a good combo of dps and staying power. Really tho, IMO, DPS is king since the name of the (end) game is grind grind away and it just makes it more efficient. Play what you have fun doing, once you figure that out is all I can say. Most everyone has multiple toons with different career paths for a variety of gameplay/abilities/ships.

I don’t think any of the 44th mind RP but I am also not really aware of any who participate in it – just FYI.

What Codewarrior said, and that’s the paramount rule in the 44th; play what you like and is fun for you.

If you really want to go PVP, and don’t like escorts, then a tank/healer might be for you, or a tank/jammer (using things like Viral Matrix, subnuc, grav wells/tykens to disrupt the baddies).

But indeed, DPS is king, and even in PVE it is somewhat important (kill probes fast in KASE etc).

Welcome back to the game, and enjoy your tour with the 44th.

Start with a science captain, who would be the support/mage class. Their captain powers are not easy to play, but they do make sense in the long run, and are potentially the most powerful. I suggest this, because In STO, it’s the ship that defines your role, not the captain class.

The captain class is more of a augmentation (since the captain powers mostly have a 3+ minute cooldown).

Thing with the science captain is that while okay in PvE, they are probably the most valuable class in PvP (and rare since few people play them). Also, their powers support any ship build as they have a good mix of tanking and debuff powers
