Early confirmation, expansion 2 will raise the level cap with tier 6 ships and mk XIV equipment. All your hard earned gear may not be invalidated since they’ll probably use the new crafting system to upgrade ships and gear (time gated grind most likely). Also the expansion will have both Tim Russ and Garrett Wang. Various delta quadrant species will be featured.

Coming this October, maybe.

August 3, 2014 at 10:19 pm #160365This is my sadface. Okay well, you’ll just have to imagine it.
So glad I get to level up 10 more times on…how many characters do I have at 50? I think six. Yay. Oh look T6 ships, bleh. Oh look, it’s Delta Quadrant themed. I guess I should have watched Voyager.

August 3, 2014 at 4:07 am #160366I really liked the Solenae Arc storywise, and especially the new game mechanics. If they will continue and improve it in the new expansion, I think I’ll enjoy it.
According to previous comments from Al Riviera, there will be a lot of new (player) ships coming out. If there won’t be a new playable race (like the Roms and their fleet of Rom ships), and most canon ships have been released already, I’m curious to see which ones are going to be launched. I pretty much have all the canon Trek ships I want for my collection (even if I don’t fly most of them rarely, if ever anymore, like the Nebula or the D’Deridex) so these new ones have to be new designs. Could be nice, could be… not so much.
I do know that the coming Expansion is supposed to be “big”, as in Legacy of Romulus big. New ground maps, space battles, storyline(s), ships etc etc. So far, every expansion and season upgrade have been good. With the new Exec Developer D’Angelo STO has taken a turn in a good direction (the upgrade of ESD, better/more game mechanics etc) so yeah, I’m looking forward to X2, grind and everything.
(Famous last words? 😀 )
"Boldly bashing Borg to bits since 2012..."August 3, 2014 at 9:57 am #160367I’m at a point where I don’t have a lot of confidence in the choices of the powers that be. It’s going to come down to how they implement the changes. I predict that it will take level 20 crafting skill to do upgrade projects.
All the new ships they’re working on are T6 versions of ships along with a handful of delta quadrant species ships. They have said tier 5 ships will still be competitive but tier 6 ships will be better- not sure how that works lol. What’s more concerning to me is that my flotilla of lockbox and lobi ships may not get any upgrades at all. It’s too soon to tell.
My plan as of now is to run crafting projects again (joy) and save up dilithium. By the time October comes I should have 2.5 million dilithium, which should be enough to buy whatever expansion pack (like the LoR Legacy pack) they’ll make. Or if all upgrades are through crafting I’ll have the dilithium to rush progress.
A lot of the talk on the main forums is the standard “DOOM!!! The game is finished!”. But I have also noticed several fair-minded vets saying the execution of Expansion 2 is going to be make or break for them. I don’t think I’m there yet, but making me re-buy everything across 7 toons would do it.
Edit: All that being said, I am excited to have ten more levels and hopefully some missions to go with it.
Edit 2: Geko repeatedly said that tier 5 ships won’t be obsolete. Also ship upgrades will not be tied to the crafting system.

August 3, 2014 at 1:07 pm #160369Wait and see how it goes. Can’t say I’m excited.
That Rommy ship looks nice! Kind of a DD and Mogai flavor to it.
It is supposed to be 2410, the ships should be improving.August 3, 2014 at 1:12 pm #160370That Fed ship looks interesting. The other two… more of the same. But it’s all still work in progress ofc.
If indeed we can upgrade our current (Fleet) ships with something worthwhile (add a weapon, add an extra Boff / console slot?) then that’s something worth grinding for – for me anyway.
I never buy into the “we’re Doooomed” hysteria that comes everytime there is an expansion or new season. Even when I’m sceptical (like with the current R&D grind) it’s never as bad as I -or the official forum- think. Maybe it’s not always an A+, but I can live with a B+.
And yes, these expansions are very, very important, because it’s been mentioned that expansions and Seasons are the real money-makers, drawing in lifetime memberships and generally more “cheeks in seats” that will spend real money (yours truly included).

Indeed, we still need to see you in that Risa bikini 😀
Those surface/city pictures look really, really nice.
So there will be a lot of ‘minor’ races; Ocampa, Kazon (…), Hierarchy (lol), Benthan and what not, but no hints yet of the ‘major’ antagonist/bad guys. There kinda has to be one, since the new reputation (grind) usually focuses on a single enemy, and rep gear is usually specialized on one main enemy (Dyson Rep is anti-Voth etc).
Main enemies seem to be the Malon, Hierarchy, Kazon and Hazari. A rag-tag fleet to be sure.
This ofcourse means a rag-tag fleet of lockbox ships too…
"Boldly bashing Borg to bits since 2012..."August 5, 2014 at 5:20 pm #160374Those pics look great: http://imgur.com/a/KNAsy
I think main enemy in X2 will be Undine as we still haven’t resolved the plot around dr.Cooper..but could be the Iconian tease in the last FE is the right answer.
August 26, 2014 at 12:39 pm #160375The official trailer for Delta Rising was released today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7KnpmyHEsc&feature=youtu.be
Lots of pew-pew, zip lines in a new FE, an unknown antagonist messing with a sphere shaped thingy, many delta quadrant species featured, and several ships we have seen along with others we haven’t.
And the remastered Intrepid class looks great, I hope they release a tier 6 version.
Overall, looks good.

August 26, 2014 at 1:54 pm #160376Love the new scenery, Intrepid looks nice indeed.
And I think we indeed get a new forward base – something like the Spire. More grinding to be done. Thankfully we completed our fleet starbases etc.
Still, I’m looking forward to Delta Rising; seems we’ll have Borg allies. Also spotted an Exosuit so the Voth will be present there as well.
"Boldly bashing Borg to bits since 2012..."August 26, 2014 at 4:36 pm #160377And the info about tier 6 ships doesn’t bode well for my personal flotilla of fleet and lobi/lockbox ships…
Additional hull hp, console slot, boff seat (specialist), and maybe a special power.
Also it seems there will be a grind on par with the R&D system, I’m the form of a ship “mastery” grind. Leading to a ship trait and what not.
While not entirely clear (more info to come), tier 5 ships will almost certainly be obsolete (at least in terms of PvP).
With the price of Zen inflating daily and ec prices holding steady, I don’t think I’ll be able to afford much new content…
I’m excited about the build possibilities though.

August 27, 2014 at 1:20 pm #160378Yes, kind of confused over how the tier 5’s will not become obsolete with the additional info now available as it certainly (admittedly on limited info) appears that the tier 6 ships would make them obsolete once you get beyond level 50.
Now I need to watch the trailer, so far watching with interest and definitely avoiding buying anything while I wait for DR to release.
