Ok, so new thing I decided to pick up.  Warhammer 40k…..anyone else here doing it?

My buddy got back into it since a new store opened up in town that sells it, loves to paint the models and such……and he dragged my appeal to it.  Always wanted to try a table top.  Not really into the Lore of Warhammer from what I’ve read so far, but enough to drag me in and the appeal of the building the miniatures myself and painting.

I picked up the starter box for Space Wolves and another troop box.   The game store here said ideal points to go for is 1000 for quicker games and what they plan doing the most.   Would love some feedback if anyone else into this and specifically the Space Wolves.

I used to be, had a full chapter of the Dark Angels, still have Azrael, the chapter leader, around here somewhere. Really loved the whole green/bone white look of it all. Their Terminators rock hard core and they have a Ravenwing ‘bikersgang’. 🙂

Yeah we did 500-1,000 point games; a 1v1 battle can take 2 hours with 1,000 pts, depending on table size and objectives/story. When I was at sea I would paint models when I had the chance, and I know many didn’t much played either but just collected the models.

Here is what remains of my Dark Angels chapter…

Still have their sourcebook as well, but the rules have most probably changed 5 times by now, never kept track of them for the last 15 years or so. Tyranids are another race/faction that are fun for painting, so are the Eldar, but Dark Angel Space Marines will always be ‘my’ chapter.

I’ve been in love with the 40k universe for years and can nerd out on lore w/ the best of them, but have never had the chance to play – in my (relatively) rural area it can be hard to find a decent D&D game – 40k wasn’t happening anywhere nearer than Dallas. Nowadays of course, it’s easier  thanks to the internet, but the hobby’s expense and my limited artistic skill coupled w/ lack of friends willing to invest in it have kept me out. Someday I’d dearly love to build and play some armies – my dream forces are an Ultramarines company and some sort of Guard mechanized unit  (the proverbial scalpel/sledgehammer combo, to be used as the situation requires)…

I don’t play 40k but I love to build and paint the miniatures.  I have won 3 shows with my minis.  I haven’t done it in a while.  I don’t follow paint scheme’s exactly, but I love Blood Angels, Ultramarine’s, Orks and Tyranids.  I will take some pic and post them of some of them.

Sweet.  Here is my army so far just for anyone curious.

    Bjorn the Fell-Handed (HQ)

    x2 Thunderwolf Cavalry

    x3 Wolf Guard

    x1 Grey Hunters

Right now it’s just over 1000 points, but might drop the Grey Hunters to drop it closer to that number.  Ended up getting a lot of points by building troops of Wolf Guard just because I thought certain weapons looked cooler and didn’t really put much playing thought into the building.  Saves me money, but drops my units to a few to have to be more tactical.

Back in the day I’ve seen players win with just tactical squads, no fancy heavy gear whatsoever, so it can certainly be done. Obviously having ‘table presence’ by deploying cool landspeeders, bikes and Rhino APCs does make it cooler. 🙂

Talking about WH40K reminds me I still have some WH40K games in a drawer somewhere… 🙂

Ooh 40K. I read a lot of the books. The moment I’ve read the trilogy of Mars, I was hooked.

Reading about ships kilometers long, hundreds of thousands of soldiers on board, ships with an infrastructure so massive that people don’t even know what exists below..

I still enjoy 40K, Never played a tabletop just liked the miniature’s, still got them somewhere, I have quite a few Black Library novels I used to read but don’t any more, still play the PC games though.

Have all the Dawn of war Games except DOW3, Space Marine, Kill Team, BattleFleet Gothic, Space Hulk(never played just bought when on sale lol)

Ok, so new thing I decided to pick up. Warhammer 40k…..anyone else here doing it?

I used to play, I started it back in Rouge Trader Day – 1st Ed. During 2nd Ed I had a huge Chaos Space Marine Army. But I stopped play about 5th Ed, to many changes and the price just keeps going up.

But it is a great game, just too rich for my blood.
