From the discussion on r/sto, it sounds like the difference between EC and salvage is that the latter is character (or account?) bound. So, the idea is that the main source of EC flowing into the economy (vendor trash) gets diverted into salvage, thus reducing the inflationary pressure on the EC economy. It’s a reasonable theory, I guess.
I’m sure hoping that some devs have a plan in the medium/long term for eventually consolidating all of the currencies again, though.
Nice to get that capability — it’s been on the wish list for a long time.
But…salvage? Do we need yet another currency to manage? Especially another one that is primarily generated by vendor trash? It looks like the system will also cost dil, so what’s the point of introducing an EC-analogue too?
So, right now at about 9pm PST, I see 5 players (including me) online in the main fleet and one in our Delta fleet. There are 2 more players online in our KDF fleet.
Thanks for raising the issue! I pinned a topic in this forum instructing people to contact me in-game if they have issues with the website. I’m glad that you pointed out that this support route is non-obvious and should be better documented.
Yeah, the backup support channel is basically “send in-game fleet email to me (or another officer who should route it to me)”. If something requires back-and-forth communication, I can contact you directly using your website account’s email address.
I do see a bunch of failed logins from your account earlier today, but there’s nothing in the server logs to indicate that there was a problem with the website. Let me know if it happens again and maybe there will be more useful information available.
(Mod note: this was posted four times. Since none of the topics have any replies, I simply deleted three of the copies. Carry on.)
For leveling up, don’t worry too much about acquiring gear. Generally, a good default cruiser setup would be to stick single beam arrays in all slots. The number one thing to remember is to change your power settings from the default (all 50) to the offensive configuration (100 weapons power) — this will effectively double your damage. Just fly circles around the enemy and fire broadsides into them.
Some good basic bridge officer skills include “beam fire at will” (BFAW), “tactical team” (TT), and “emergency power to weapons” (EPtW). If you find yourself dying a lot, “emergency power to shields”, “engineering team”, “science team”, and “hazard emitters” are good choices for heals. Keep in mind that there aren’t any penalties for dying at normal levels of difficulty, so playing a little on the aggressive and risky side often pays off.
The last piece of advice would be to stick with a single energy type (eg all phasers) and get tactical consoles to match (eg, all +X phaser damage if you’re only using phasers). This matters less when you’re lower level, since the ships can’t hold too many of them and each console will provide a fairly small boost — if you’re flying cruisers, I wouldn’t worry much about this until you hit 30ish if not 40ish.
You know, as many times as I’ve read the forums, I never really noticed the ribbons. That’s a really cool feature!
They’re actually brand new, so it’s not your imagination that they weren’t there before. 🙂
I expect that Marcase will talk more about them in the next monthly update, but the short version is that Paradoxical proposed them, and we decided to run with the idea.
Thanks for the monthly update, it’s already interesting and appreciated!
Thanks for the updates, Marcase!
For those of you planning to update your gear, I’ll add that there’s an upgrade weekend from March 16-20. Your upgrades (and dilithium!) will go twice as far that weekend, so it will be especially worthwhile to hold off on any rarity upgrades you may have planned for another couple of weeks.
The player maintained event calendar under the news tab is a pretty good way of keeping track of what’s been announced as well as getting a sense for how often each of these events has run in the past.
Well, I gave it a couple of PuG tries and made 32 rounds the first time and 11 the second. Seems like the event rewards are pretty good, and (unsurprisingly) one of the players was AFK for one of the matches. 🙁
Generally, agro-breaking powers seemed to be pretty useful. Ambush, visual dampening field, and shard of possibilities were all nice to have. Motion accelerator was nice to have when hazards and control-based enemies ended up in the same round.
It did seem that the borg adapted to my plasma rifle — nothing that can’t be solved by keeping a tr-116b or shotgun in your back pocket, though.
Really, I think that it’s pretty smart of the developers to put an event like this right after a big rebalancing. If anything is going to get players to find an overpowered meta in the new rules, this is it.
Given the lastest patch notes on Tribble, I’m also excited to see how well a bunch of engineers can fortify a position in this queue:
Glad you decided that the game was worth the lifetime subscription! Did you get the right fleet invites for all of your characters?
You can transfer items between alts by mailing them to yourself at a mail terminal. I don’t believe that there’s any way to transfer EC without an account bank, but there are a few exchange items that are likely to be pretty stable in value (eg, lock box keys) that could be moved between alts instead.
The fleet stores (ie, the vendors on the starbase and all of the other fleet holdings) are open once you’re a full member of the fleet (LT grade). Currently, the review period for new members is two weeks. You will also have access to the fleet bank; however, please only take what you actually plan to use personally and be respectful about the amount of gear that you take.
For reference, these are on our rules and regulations page.
