October 30, 2020 at 5:57 am #429810Constitution Refit from ST:TMP.
Graceful and well-designed exterior faithfully-recreated in-game (T6 Temporal Light Cruiser). Awesome bridge layout (in TWoK, too) as well as other interiors… rec-deck, hangar-bay, medbay, engineering and corridors etc. Bit of a mis-step in the uniform design but they addressed that in TWoK. This peerless beauty is my favourite ship in purely Trek terms, as a fan.
To fly and in terms of fun… the T6 Fleet Mogai (mashup with Morrigu/Valdore bits) with the S31 skin… makes me smile 🙂

October 12, 2020 at 11:54 am #429510Lag. It’s comparable to trying to fill a syringe using one hand and an elbow or a testicle. Especially if they’re not yours.
Not. Conducive. To. Success.

October 12, 2020 at 5:12 am #429504I started playing this game at launch with fourteen RL friends (we ported from our RP/paintballing Starfleet team). I’m the last one left in-game. I don’t have to tell you what my overall opinion has been of the game’s ‘progress.’ Or of the recent additions to the films/tv series, either.
This last House Knackered ‘patch’ has been terribad. I know we’re all supposed to be cheerfully non-critical here in the 44th… but still. Terribad. With extra terri. I’ve reskilled/traited my main four characters but can’t face the rest… yet. So I agree with you.
I still get bouts of inexplicable, inconsistent and unpredictable lag and it makes my teeth itch when I end up faceplanting into a wall or glass panel thanks to rubberbanding… let alone having to select/click multiple times to get stuff to fire. Bad. With even more terri. Therefore… unfortunately… sorry to say that I’ve not noticed a consistent improvement with lag and rubberbanding.
Thanks for the weekly updates and hope you get an illuminating response to your tweetling.

August 11, 2020 at 3:31 am #428088You’re welcome. If you see me in-game and need anything, feel free to throw me a boo!
Cheeky monkey. I think.

August 10, 2020 at 8:08 pm #428080So much to do. So many paths forward. As Marcase said, we’ve all been there.
My (relatively uncomplicated!) advice would be…
Discover your own playstyle, as in how you enjoy playing STO.
This helps you narrow your future choices as far as gear, spec and builds go. Once you have a picture of how you like to play, you can concentrate on stuff that will help you further improve your playstyle (and improve your DPS / survivability / manoeuvrability etc along the way).
For example – and generally-speaking – if you like firing beam arrays then the way forward is most likely to be light/medium/heavy cruisers, battlecruisers and dreadnoughts. If you prefer cannons, escorts might suit better. If you enjoy hangar pets, carriers ftw! If you like mega-mobility and speed… tight-turns… if you enjoy casting space wizard gravwells … if you prefer torpedoes… if you enjoy mines… if you enjoy firing at targets to the front, side or from every conceivable angle simultaneously… if you prefer survival and self/team buffing/healing… if you enjoy ground maps with teammates or BOffs… all of these things (and more) help you narrow your focus and then target particular ships, gear, traits, specialisations to work towards.
Knowing this kind of stuff can save you time, effort and cost in acquiring and upgrading stuff that doesn’t fit your preferred playstyle. Knowing this kind of stuff can stop burnout caused by not enjoying the ship you’ve worked so hard to build only to find it’s just ‘not you’… or simply not enjoying the game itself. Knowing this kind of stuff can help keep the game fun. Hope that makes sense.
Once you have an good idea of what it is you enjoy doing with your time in-game… and how… you can get into specifics (again, based on your own preferences)… which weapon and energy type… which torp… which engines/shields… which skill-tree and traits… which reputation… etcetc… to concentrate on.
Some things are a constant no matter what your playstyle preferences are… you’ll need dilithium, EC, reputation marks, XP for specialisation points, salvage for re-engineering etc… but most choices you end up making are far better made for fun and your personal playstyle. In my opinion, ofc.
Once you know what you like… then the 44th’s guides, FAQ’s and ship builds (and members) are an excellent source of ways to improve, things to aim for, and specific solutions and how-to’s. Fleetfolk can (and do!) help with in-game missions, TFO’s and stuff via the fleetbank, as well as with crafting and such.
The kinds of things you can do while you’re finding your feet… and after… are…
Take your time.
- Work through Episodes, particularly those with good rewards… for XP and rewards. Some episode arcs open up new space maps, so can’t really be ignored.
- Do daily events, as they occur… for whatever event reward is on offer.
- Do endeavours, as you are able. These reward dil, EC, XP, mark boxes and build up perks that reward bonuses to many game-stats.
- Do at least one daily patrol, for rep marks and bonus dil. The more patrols, the merrier as they are repeatable things that you can do swiftly and solo for dil, rep marks, loot, ship-mastery and EC. Don’t bore yourself, though.
- Do the daily Fleet Research Lab assignment, for dil.
- Do TFO’s, for rep marks (on Advanced if you want to build up the rep Elite marks).
- Do DOff assignments as you can. For XP (though some reward quantities of dil/EC/special rewards).
- Do Admiralty assignments as you can. For Dil etc.
- Sell any loot you don’t want to a vendor (do not recycle, you get less EC), to build up EC.
As you play you will become more and more familiar. Absolutely.
Hope that wall-of-text (sorry) helped. One thing you can be sure of… that ‘lost’ feeling will go. Another thing is… you’re not alone!

August 8, 2020 at 11:16 am #428023As has been mentioned a few times in various fleet forum posts and FAQs, STO has an internal (ie: non-Tartarus or macro driven) .txt-file keybind system. Basic details can be found on the Hilbert Guide (under General Concepts).
So… before you go anywhere near the Tartarus… set up an STO keybind then bind it to a key in-game (as per the guide above).
After you’ve done that, and tested it in-game (always a wise move)… only then map a Tartarus keypress (toggled) to that key… and Bob’s your uncle.
The end result is that with one tap of a Tartarus key, you can trigger all the ten skills/abilities that are found in whatever tray you specified in the .txt-file… and without the need for involved or complicated Razer macros.
Of course, that’s just one way. If you’d like to prod me more re: Tartarus mappings, sent me a /tell in-game @Nubia or message me via the forum. I don’t use Discord as it snaps my PC-strings but I’m sure there are plenty of eminently-capable fleeties willing and able to help there, too. Also, the forum FAQ and Paradoxicals Guides are jam-packed with mustreadness.
On a side-note… automation is subjective, and perhaps situational. Some folks like to go all analogue and manual, others like to hit the one key and put their feet up. My own preference is to choose between auto-lazy-beer-n-vape mode… and frantic single-key-press-sweaty mode… and the Tartarus lets me do that better than any mouse-combo I’ve tried. The thumb-joystick is simply awesome in space. I hope you stick with it, suss it thoroughly and enjoy your new toy lotlymuchly!

August 7, 2020 at 6:14 pm #428010Regarding the Tartarus… I don’t use it fully but find it mega-useful in space combat sims at least to use the thumb-joystick for manoeuvre. I don’t use the Tartarus for ground maps in STO. But in space maps…
Map – Toggle ‘M’
Offence – Tray 10 Keybind (Macro-Toggle) / Depending on ship/build/Captain could toggle Tray 10 and Tray 9 Keybind
Defence – Tray 8 Keybind (Macro-Activate Once)
Map to Tray 1 Slot 2 – Cloak (Toggle ‘2’)
Map to Tray 1 Slots 3 and 4 – Manual Hangar Pet Launch (Macro-Activate Once)
‘F’ Key Option
Note: The Offence Macro also includes the Fire All command.
A standard TAC Tray 10 Keybind (for me) might include EPtW/EPtSh/BFAW/TS/APO/APB/TT/TT and any relevant offensive buffs/batteries etc… and automated hangar pet launch (to replenish losses).
A standard TAC Tray 8 Keybind (for me) might include RSP/ST/ET/HE and any relevant shield/hull heals/buffs/batteries etc.
Once setup it can serve ENG and SCI captains/builds simply by twiddling with skills/abilities in trays.
Happy Tartarussing!

May 29, 2020 at 7:59 pm #426899I just had to link this for your delectation and delight. It’s the best review of Picard I’ve seen so far. If you haven’t already seen it, pour yourself a pleasing beverage and keep the tissue box handy to catch your tears of pain and hilarity. Enjoy.

May 21, 2020 at 7:14 am #426771What’s indicative is that the article is posted… officially. It’s not an article penned by a bvlogger/twitterati activist type that can be dismissed as fringe. This. Is. Official.
