A member of our Fleet has requested a Discord Music Bot. While I can certainly make this possible, many of the officers did show some concern of this. However, once I told them of the way I was going to set it up, the majority vote passed and I am now bringing it to you!
How this bot works is simple, you do a command to search YouTube for a song you want, it adds it to a playlist, and will play the list in a discord voice channel. There will be rules associated with it, however, and you need to be aware of them:
1. The bot will have it’s own voice channel that anyone will be able to join. This allows users who want to use it to be able to, and those who don’t will not.
2. Commands will be given in a special voice channel that the bot will only respond in. This limits text chat spam in the other channels.
3. The same discord rules of behavior will also extend to the song choices. Obviously, some songs have cursing and whatnot, but let’s not go overboard. As always, religion and politics are strictly off limits.
So, now it is your chance to let me know if you all want this as well. It will only take 5 or so minutes to set up, so it can be done quite quickly. However, you all will vote for it. Starting today, voting will commence. You will have until 9 Aug to submit your vote. Once voting is over, the majority will win and that will be the final decision.
Any questions, concerns, or gripes about the bot can be done here, and I will try to answer them. Fair Winds and Following Seas!

I don’t actually use discord as I don’t have a headset w/mic but I will eventually so I voted relevant
to if I were on now.Thank you for asking instead of just throwing in a “feature” without some thought and discussion.

Just as a general FYI regarding Discord – it’s not a requirement, just an extra service, and we mostly use its texting features for quicker messaging anyway (that, and senseless meme spamming 😛 ), so you can join the web browser variant without needing to talk/listen. It’s a great way to stay in touch when we’re not in-game.

As for discord, most of the features I have added were either requests or voted on. Standard operating procedures.
Discord is there for a service for the fleet. It’s meant to be another resource for our fleet-mates to use to enhance their whole experience while in the fleet. Some use it to talk to far-flung members, some to share custom-made memes. Some ask questions about the game that would be too difficult to ask in-game, and some use it to show off pictures of new rigs (guilty here!).
Myself, along with Palcioz and many other Fleet Officers, have made our discord into what it is today. Super helpful for us all in many different ways. As always, if you have suggestions or feedback, feel free to personal message me in discord and I’ll see what can be done. This is how this particular feature was suggested.
There’s already been a request for music to play while we Dabo it up this weekend during the events. 🙂
