1. As you may have seen in the tribble patch notes, they will allow Romulan Republic (and probably Jem’hadar) to fly t6 ships of their chosen ally (fed or kdf), with the exception of lockbox/promo faction-specific ships, and lifetime subscription ships:
- Chimera/Manticore Heavy Destroyer (All variants)
- Peghqu’/Duvqu’ Heavy Destroyer (All variants)
- Korath/Qul’poH Temporal Science Vessel (All variants)
- Wells/Verne Temporal Science Vessel (All variants)
- Krenn/Chargh’poH Temporal Destroyer (All variants)
- Mobius/Klein Temporal Destroyer (All variants)
- Command Assault Cruiser (All variants)
- NX Escort Refit [T6]
- Prototype Dreadnought Cruiser [T6]
- Temporal Heavy Dreadnought Cruiser [T6]
- Temporal Light Cruiser [T6]
- D7 Temporal Battlecruiser [T6]
- D9 Dreadnought Battlecruiser [T6]
- Durgath Temporal Heavy Dreadnought Battlecruiser [T6]
- Kelvin Timeline D4x Pilot Bird-of-Prey [T6]
- Kelvin Timeline Heavy Command Cruiser [T6]
- Kelvin Timeline Intel Dreadnought Cruiser [T6]
This is useful because more options are available for rom/jh: they will have access to largest number of admiralty ships because they can claim most t6 fed or kdf ships, and get easier access to some ship traits because you don’t have to buy a warbird if you already own the fed variant. For example, owning a Presidio will be enough to get the All Hands On Deck trait – there is no need to buy Vastam class ship if you just want the trait.
On the other hand, if you were unhappy that they gave kdf console Plasmonic Leech to everyone, this decision will not please you. Although RR already had access to t5 and lower tier ships, access to endgame tier is bad for faction identity. From role-play perspective, it is bold move to share your most advanced tech with factions you were in war with. Ok, Romulan Republic was never hostile toward UFP, but still, I find it hard to believe that xenophobic, back-stabbing Romulans would want to use non-warbird vessels.
My biggest concern was if that means they will stop creating more RR ships in future, because in theory fed or kdf ship would be enough. Official reply is that they “… were definitely still planning to make unique Romulan and Dominion ships in the future.” (source)
Current ship list may not be the final version as it is not live yet.
2. Related to upcoming Gamma reputation, they will allow re-engineering of some items:
3. Landing page is also being fixed because it wasn’t planned to have it appear every time you switch character. (source)
What is your opinion on these changes?
May 11, 2018 at 7:52 am #221769I don’t RP, now, as a rule so that argument doesn’t bother me. However, more and faction-specific ships are a good thing for the game because they encourage multi-character play and therefore keeps people in-game.
Image already addedMay 11, 2018 at 11:11 am #221772I am spending most of my time on my Rom/Fed Science character these days, so it is mostly a welcome change. I can pickup a large number of admiralty cards for no additional outlay, and also pickup a few traits from single ships I purchased when I first started on my Fed character (Arbiter/Presidio).
On the other hand, I don’t have any interest in flying the Fed ships with my Rom, and have some concerns that with resources now spread also to the Jem’Hadar faction that the number of ships in the future will be limited, especially if they ever introduce a T7 level. I am not a big RP guy, but it does add immersion to fly a ship that fits with my characters background.
Also going forward, is there any reason to make a Fed or KDF character anymore? The Roms already have some nice advantages, and realistically I will never get any of the more exclusive lockbox ships anyway, so that really isn’t a factor.

May 11, 2018 at 12:08 pm #221776the only reason there is still a Fed/KDF faction is that it is hardcoded in the game software. Devs themselves dearly want to move away from it (it’s easier and cheaper to create a single faction story/queue) but it’s what they (and we) are stuck with.
I do like the separate storylines of Fed/KDF/Tom as it gives a different perspective. Especially the Romulan are my hands down favourite.
So no, not a big fan of this ship sharing – save for the extra admiralty cards.
"Boldly bashing Borg to bits since 2012..."May 12, 2018 at 7:29 pm #221780I mean there is not much of a point in not making as many roms as you can now. a Full rom team in a fleet T6 defiant, yeah no real point in making a fed anymore. They get their own line of ships plus whatever FEDS/KDF have.
May 12, 2018 at 12:51 am #221788A Rom in a Defiant just feels so… wrong 🙂
"Boldly bashing Borg to bits since 2012..."May 12, 2018 at 1:38 am #221790Don’t matter if its wrong or not people are going to do it lol. My point stands as there is no real point to making a fed or kdf anymore just roms.
