well I took all my dilithium from 3 alts and bought zen. got me the scimitar pack. had considered the monbosh, but will not have enough lobi anytime soon, so i went scimitar.
now it will take forever or at least a couple of months to get a good build. so far i tried the falchion since my rom is an engineer on kdf side. not what i expected so far.
the thalaron pulse is pretty cool, but kind of slow. The secondary shields seems nice so far. i thought i was a little squishy but put the build together kind of fast since it was getting late but i was eager to try it out.
i am curious as to which scimitar is considered to be the best by the 44th. i would need an extra tac console for the tac version. since i sold about all i had to get a few things it will be awhile before i can get the really good stuff.
anything you care to mention about the scimitar would be appreciated. this will be my last ship(s) for a long time. i really exhausted my resources getting it.
my project this morning was going to be working on the scim and trying all 3 out, but just my luck it is down time for maintenance. and it just so happens to be raining and kind of cold here. so i will just wait.
November 26, 2013 at 1:35 pm #159604Well, I won the last Fleet Olympics with a Scimitar, so you might want to use that as a template.
You can find the build and detailed writeup here: http://startrek.44thfleet.com/forum/index.php/?f=12&t=536&p=5465&rb_v=viewtopic#p5465
It’s a bit PvP centric, but only a couple of minor tweaks (EPTW instead of EPTE, APB3 instead of APO3, and APB1 instead of APD1) will make it a PvE monster.
November 26, 2013 at 3:50 pm #159605thanks for the post Blackout. I managed to try out all 3 this morning after maintenance. Overall I seemed to do best in the Falchion.
I had heard you needed all 3 for the console set for the Scimitar to be at it’s best. being very trusting of the fleet, I decided I had to have the set. I don’t think you need the set imho. I have to admit the thalaron pulse is vey cool, but probably a waste of a good console slot. if you accidentally hit it at the wrong time you are a sitting duck.
I had beams and DHCs to try. for me the DHCs are not an option.
I am glad I get the 3 pack though, because I got to try each one. for now I will focus on the Falchion.
now I am off to see Blackout’s build.
Edit: I have a very similar build to what Blackout posted. in place of spirals I have kdf elite fleet disruptors and for now I only have 6 since that is all I could afford. using chroniton torps and a breen torp on aft until I can afford more beams. I knew all the really good players used jev hardpoints and deuterium. I guess I need to start grinding for that stuff too.
and I love the inertia.
November 27, 2013 at 4:19 am #159606Can’t go wrong with Blackout’s build of course (Still kicking myself I swapped out my undefeated Scimi for a Dhelan in the Olympics… Ugh).
The Scimi really is an “ice-scater”; it takes some getting used to, but you can do a 180-degree turn if you time it right – which is pretty neat and allows you to strafe your target.
But it’s still a cruiser, with a good, but not great turn rate.I also mount 7x Elite Disruptors with the Omega Torp/TS2 just for laughs, the Rom Hyper Torp for ESTFs.
The three-piece set does give the Thalaron, but that’s just for show really. Unless you really spec for it (max out skills in Particle Gens etc) you might get some mileage out of it, but even then it’s not nearly as powerfull as Donatra’s Borg Death Ray. Also, any non-npc with half a brain cell will easily move out of range – just like we do in KASE 😀 .
I use the secondary shields console – a lot. Combined with the Rom Singularity powers it gives me perfect shields with a temporary hull/shield boost which allows me time to repair – high hull heal rate with just one copy of HE is sufficient in PVP for me, all the while blasting away 24/7 with full beams.
The Cloak Barrage is okay-ish but just doesn’t fit my playstyle. The “Shields while cloaked” is usefull but more for escape under fire – and I use the Rom Singularity Jump for that. They are very expensive, but if you can, get the VR Elite Rom Drone ships: just the 2 give the Scimi some real usefull sidekicks.
The Scimitar needs practice, but it really is one of the top three best ships in the game. Congrats on getting one ! 😀
"Boldly bashing Borg to bits since 2012..."November 27, 2013 at 1:15 pm #159607In contrast to Marcase, from my point of view the secondary shielding console is the least useful of the 3 consoles.
The shields while cloaking is a must, as if I’m under heavy fire, I can just cloak instead of having to pop a singularity or console power, and it lets me refresh my ambush and flight turn rate bonus (from the 2pc bonus) with almost no risk; thus having an offensive role as well.
I put cloaked barrage as #2, as it lets me shoot with the ambush bonus, then uncloak and continue to fire with the ambush bonus. Let me tell you, it can be very effective.
The secondary shielding console only buys me time (and not enough to be worthwhile IMHO). I can get time from other abilities; either by cloaking, using the singularity jump, quantum absorption, subspace jumper, Science Fleet, scattering field or using deuterium/evasive.
Honestly though, the Scimitar (I’m mean the 5 tac console version) is THE top ship in STO right now. No ifs, ands or buts. PvE melts when faced against it, and the entire PvP metagame is warped around it (it can take out entire bad 5 man pug teams).
The Avenger is probably a solid but very much relegated second, with the Aux2Bat boats (e.g. Excelsior, Sov, Monbosh etc), escorty warbirds (T’varo, Mogai, Dhelan, Ar’Kif), and Sci ships/carriers (Recluse, Temporal Science, Voth Science ship) rounding out the list of top competitive PvP ships.
November 27, 2013 at 2:46 pm #159608well i decided to try out the scimitar one more time. with all alts grinding for the romulan and some luck contributing to projects i managed to get the extra 2 elite disruptor beams i needed and a 5th tac console even though it does not match my set of mk xii purples. 🙁
i got the accuracy, crit & severity higher than the falchion, but not as high as the t’varo. the t’varo is a killer and the ship with the highest acc, crit & severity of all my ships; fed or kdf.
originally on the romulan, just to be different, i put some or a lot of skill points in projectiles. i have now decided to go all beams, DHCs and turrets. i had 10 respecs on the romulan, so i did one, but this time i put no points in projectiles. i’m thinking i don’t use torps or mines so no need for skill points in projectiles, right? unless i am really missing something. if i mess it up i got 9 more trys. 🙂
since i use escorts more often i find i tend to get too close to the fight in the scimitar, need to get in the habit of keeping some distance between it and the battle. i do like the way the scimitar handles though a lot.
i was feeling pretty cocky in an elite breach last night getting around very well and doing some nice damage, but at the end i did not time my final exit right and hit the wall. needless to say i died and cost the team the full bonus. that is why i practice in pugs. 🙂
