In case you haven’t seen it, a new Federation carrier is being designed with player input.
Voting starts today. I know you will all give careful consideration, consulting your aesthetic sense and your conscience, and then will vote for Delta, the obvious choice. 😀
September 25, 2015 at 4:19 pm #163351Can’t decide which one is my favorite. New ships tend to look like Alpha so I won’t vote for that one and would rather have more retro look. Beta, Delta, Theta.. hm.
September 25, 2015 at 4:37 pm #163352Delta looks to me as if it would scale up to a large size well. Also, the huge saucer and the spine on it kind of hint at a move toward Universe-class design elements.

October 1, 2015 at 8:16 am #163354Well, in the first contest I voted for Alpha and in this second one I voted Gamma. But the best of all designs for me is Omega and it’s the one that will probably win
October 1, 2015 at 12:25 pm #163355Humbug! You sadden me!
I expect Omega will win, and at this point, it should, as it’s the only design other than Delta that is plausible for a carrier. But Delta was the one I would have been willing to spend money on. Oh well!

November 23, 2015 at 1:50 pm #163357Here it is:
http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/9667053-star-trek-online%3A-building-jupiterI like it, but not enough to buy it. Had the Delta design won, I might feel differently. But the truth is, I have a carrier captain, and she’s a Caitian, so she commands an Atrox.
November 23, 2015 at 3:13 pm #163358I’m not enamored with the design, but like you, I have many carriers and my Sci main could get some mileage out of this Jupiter. I like the Callisto light escort pets though, so maybe just for them I might get it. The LTC/Intel slot is nice as I favor Intel over Command or Pilot any day.
The Fleet Coordination console sounds total meh, and will prob have a long cd to be usefull anyway.
Maybe, it’s a maybe for me. Mostly because there are no other ships on the horizon or on my current list that I absolutely friggin’ MUST have (except maybe the Astika for the trait only).
The Insult to Injury trait sounds interesting from a gimmick point of view. Giving Transport Warhead to a full wing of 12 Elite Scorps using HY Plasma Torps…
The Recluse is still my no-question Number One carrier, followed by the Jem Hadar Dread. Then the Xindi carrier which isn’t too bad either. But I just can’t stand the looks of my Atrox and the fugly Obelisk even outranks the Cat Carrier for me. 😯
Which is funny since I consider myself a cat-person. Sort of. 😀
"Boldly bashing Borg to bits since 2012..."November 26, 2015 at 6:50 am #163359It’s actually grown on me, and now I’m thinking I may get one. More for non-gameplay reasons than anything else. I think this ship occupies an interesting place in the story we’ve been playing through. Design probably began early in the Iconian War, an attempt to build a new warship for the conflict. But the war abruptly ended before it was complete.
At which point, in my head canon, the design was repurposed for deep-space exploration. The seating and loadout focus shifted from tactical to science, and while the bays could still be filled up with fighters, they could also be filled with shuttles for detailed exploration of planets or nearby systems, or runabouts or even frigates to branch out to more distant or more hazardous systems.
So for a science-oriented character, a hero of the Iconian War, the opportunity to transfer her flag from an experimental warship to a proper Federation ship built for exploring uncharted areas of the galaxy might be too much to resist.
Transport Warhead gets a pretty bad rap on the forums. Not sure why.
I like the look of the Atrox quite a lot, myself! But that’s a ship and a character I built largely for solo amusement; it’s not terribly effective, but it’s entertaining.
November 27, 2015 at 1:20 am #163360I like your ‘head canon’ 😀 , and since the current season in STO is focused on ‘exploration’ (besides blowing up Tholians and Mirror Universe) it does make sense.
I do hope we have some extra customization options; having large and small nacelles just looks ‘wrong’ to me, both from an esthetic and Trek-nology pov.
"Boldly bashing Borg to bits since 2012..."November 27, 2015 at 2:15 pm #163361I picked one up but haven’t had time to do much with it yet. I did make a quick trip to the ship customizer and was disappointed that there are no options at all. Other than changing the color patterns there is nothing you can change in the advanced window. I’m looking forward to taking her out on a proper first date.
My only wish for it would be (other than some customization options) is that since it’s very much a science vessel it would be nice to have a secondary deflector and sensor analysis.
November 28, 2015 at 7:06 pm #163362Agreed on the Sec deflector and SA. It looks to me it was perhaps originally a Command Carrier but they changed it to Intel/Sci carrier or something.
I got mine, and took it through some Tau Dewas (Adv) for leveling and testing. I bought the Elite Callisto‘s from our main fleet Starbase Space vendor NPC (not yet unlocked on Delta), and boy do those frigs rock – they’re quite sturdy.

These stats are from a Beta Thoridar Adv run, nothing dramatic, just to give a general idea.
These were unbuffed, meaning no +pet traits or Command traits (pilot/intel).This was a straight port from my Sci Scryer (Mirror Event & Flow Cap/Gravimetric build) to a T-6 Jupiter captained by a lvl 60 Sci toon.
EPTx build, Protonic Polarons, Dyson 4-piece set and the Neutronic 3-pc for the Iso-kinetic cannon, aux power at 130. Embassy Sci consoles Flow/Grav (+Pla). Protonic/Polaron Tac consoles. For a testdrive this build works, but is too science-y. Probably going back to a full BFAW Antiproton or even a phaser build eventually. But even with that it will ofc never be an escort/battlecruiser DPS-monster, so don’t bother to try build it like one 😎

[attachment=0:1bu1zors]1jup2.JPG[/attachment:1bu1zors]As with all carrier whales; it turns like a brick wall. You need at least one RCS and/or run an 2x Aux2Damp build for some decent maneuvering. Since the whole idea behind carriers is that it’s there to support its pets by pulling aggro, so good armor + shield are a must. Grav Well + BFAW are nice to rack up targets for your pets to finish.
The Elite Callisto’s are very nice. Need to test these further.Fleet T-6 version adds an extra Eng console and some more hull.
First impression; it’s a carrier, so it’s slow. As Jim mentioned the lack of SA, Sec deflector and further customization is a real drag. Nor will this ship ever be a ranking DPS brute. The Jupiter is for the true carrier/cruiser connoisseur.
Star of this ship are the Callisto’s – especially the Elite variants hit hard and are quite tough.Verdict: Only buy it if you like carriers and can handle lumbering cruiser types. If you do, it’s quite good fun 😀
"Boldly bashing Borg to bits since 2012..."November 30, 2015 at 9:59 am #163363I’m enjoying mine quite a bit. I’m trying it with a phaser build, centered around the new Quantum Phase beam/torp/console set. Quantum phase beam and torp front, Andorian phaser front and two back, wide-angle quantum rounding out the back. I may ultimately replace the wide-angle quantum with a third Andorian phaser — I’m finding that the ship is so big, I need to wiggle it around to bring that 180° arc into play. Not an issue on smaller ships!
Andorian phasers are fleet advanced ACC DMGx3, and I’m using them because the visual and sound blends well with the Quantum Phase beam. The three-piece set adds a Vesta-like ten-second superweapon beam that looks pretty fantastic coming out of the carrier. (As a side note, both +phaser and +partg improve this beam.)
I’m using one wing of elite frigates and one wing of Yellowstones. The Frigates are unquestionably better (especially in terms of survivability), but I do enjoy crowd control even when it isn’t strictly necessary, and I had the Yellowstones on hand from my Vesta. In situations with a lot of small ships and torps moving around, I tend to keep the Yellowstones in intercept mode, which both helps keep them alive and helps keep the small crap off my ship.
I’m also trying the new Quantum Phase Applications set for deflector, impulse and shield (I don’t love the engines, but the three-piece bonus looks good), and the Terran rep warp core. Still have to collect those last two items.
I have everything up to Mk XIV, but I’m holding on further upgrades while I try to decide whether I really want to fly this as my primary ship over the Annorax. It’s a lovely ship (the design has really grown on me), and story-wise it’d have a lot of appeal to my captain, but…the Annorax is just so damn good (and I’ve put so much work into it!)
December 1, 2015 at 10:16 am #163364I ended up buying a fleet version, only because I wanted to try out this ship, without spending dilithium/zen. I still haven’t made a build but I know it will use beam arrays with either Corrosive Plasma or Spiral Waves (has to be yellow/orange :P).
For those that haven’t seen LootCritter’s review, check it out here.
Edit: Just went into system space, that ship looks so good!:)
Edit2: I’ll try out the science build. FBP is there to attract fire away from pets.
