Any opinions on the best fore/aft weapons build?  I’m a lvl 10 tac officer running a cruiser and and was hoping some of you experienced players have some insight.

For leveling, any will do. Just make sure you use the same damage type and the relevant tac consoles to boost them.

For end game, it depends how you want to play your ship. What were you looking to do? Tank? Dps?

For leveling up, don’t worry too much about acquiring gear. Generally, a good default cruiser setup would be to stick single beam arrays in all slots. The number one thing to remember is to change your power settings from the default (all 50) to the offensive configuration (100 weapons power) — this will effectively double your damage. Just fly circles around the enemy and fire broadsides into them.

Some good basic bridge officer skills include “beam fire at will” (BFAW), “tactical team” (TT), and “emergency power to weapons” (EPtW). If you find yourself dying a lot, “emergency power to shields”, “engineering team”, “science team”, and “hazard emitters” are good choices for heals. Keep in mind that there aren’t any penalties for dying at normal levels of difficulty, so playing a little on the aggressive and risky side often pays off.

The last piece of advice would be to stick with a single energy type (eg all phasers) and get tactical consoles to match (eg, all +X phaser damage if you’re only using phasers). This matters less when you’re lower level, since the ships can’t hold too many of them and each console will provide a fairly small boost — if you’re flying cruisers, I wouldn’t worry much about this until you hit 30ish if not 40ish.

Good advice already given above. What I can say is that there are a lot of weapons and consoles and kit you can get for free from mission rewards (see this link), but also from crafting. It’s not unlocked for you yet at level 10, but ‘lo and behold, it is for your fleet-mates.

So if you need any kit, we can craft it for you, free of charge; it may only cost you some crafting materials (which you usually automatically pick up for free as well). Low level kit costs almost nothing, and when leveling (just playing) with your captain it’s sometimes cheaper / more convenient to stick with a good set of Mk ‘low’ weapons and upgrade them as you go, untill you reach level 50-60, when it starts to matter more. We pick up a lot of gear we vendor off but may be of use to you – just ask around in 44th-diplo and I’m sure someone will have something usefull for you.

Off topic, but since I missed you in-game while you were in Kerrat, make sure you visit the 44th’s fleet holdings; Fleet starbase, mine, research lab, K13 and Embassy (use the transporter pad from your fleet starbase). Most of it is not in reach yet, but leveling goes fast in STO and it is handy to know where we hide the goodies. 😉

Thank you for the above responses…. I will spend the next few days familiarizing myself with the fleet resources.  I only registered earlier today and already your collective knowledge is helping me greatly; I appreciate it!
