When you train a boff in a new specialization, does it keep it’s original skills. Example: I train a science boff to use temporal operative skills, does it still retain any science skills known?
March 16, 2017 at 10:30 am #180673Yes. I have a Romulan Tac Officer (Superior Operative) which besides all Tac skills is also trained in Intel, Temporal, Pilot and Command – so it’s basically a universal Boff that can be slotted in a say, a CDR Eng/Command Boff slot (even if it’s not an Engineer) but fill all Command skills. So your Boff(s) can end up having a long laundry list of skills.
So ‘the thing’ that’s most important for Boffs now is their innate bonus skills – like Superior Operative or Pirate – since you can add a bunch of new ones. This also means that the rarity of a Boff is less important; something the number-crunchers found out way back is that there’s no real different between a Green or Purple one stats wise.
In your example you can use your Sci/Temp Op Boff to fill a Commander Sci/Temp Boff slot with both Science and Temporal powers, and switch them during gameplay like ‘regular’ Boffs.
Fun fact; if your Boff is über-trained like my Tac Romulan, you can give it four different career skills for ground without a single (tac) career one. So mine can beam down with an Intel power, command power, and 2 temporal ground powers.
"Boldly bashing Borg to bits since 2012..."March 16, 2017 at 10:50 am #180675Just to clarify. That seat can have 2 sci skills and 2 temp op skills at the same time? If so,
This changes everything for my science captain. I saw some sweet temp op aoe damage dealers that would go very nicely with the gw/ssv/drb combo. And now I know the ship I was eyeing can do it!

Paradoxical.
March 16, 2017 at 2:10 pm #180686Yes you can. A Commander Science/temporal seat can have any combination of four Sci/temp abilities.

Yep, just build a master handful list of boffs and then can learn a lot of skills. You can’t teach an old dog old tricks tho… tac cannot learn sci/eng because cryptic.
March 17, 2017 at 8:13 am #180704Well considering these specialization a seem to be just like player captain specializations, it makes sense. Science captains can’t learn engineering captain special skills like miracle worker.
