i was chatting with Ba’el / horridperson about how bad CSEs and other missions can be primarily due to people not doing things right, for example, not protecting kang, being lazy in the vault, etc. some people just don’t learn and they do the same dumb thing over and over.

i make mistakes, but i will eventually learn from them. my most recent mistake was taking my hard earned fully upgraded reman set and doing a plasma build around it. from what i read, i thought i would get some plasma boost from the reman set.

it was horrible. i tried everything to make it better but i am convinced plasma weapons are just too weak for anything. i switched out the plasma weapons with phasers and that ship is now a killer.

i like having the reman set and it is good; better than the other sets, imho. however, the 3 piece borg and maco 12 shield is still king.

lesson learned: stay away from plasma.

got anything you want to share??

I shared my latest horror story with Sargon. I can’t afford to be as critical of new players because in the STF environment I am one myself and frequently error or need babysitting.

My concern with the elite STFs isn’t so much the neophypte but a more seasoned player who is simply taking advantage of the system. In a the last few CSE I’ve been subjected to they have gone horribly. I’ve had 3 “teammates” who really contributed nothing to accomplishing the mission objective.

It seems myself and some other dupe (one certainly knew how to play cure) attempted to bring down the nanites on the far bay. Initially I assumed the three mates were guarding the Kang. Even if it was overkill at least they were protecting an objective. They didn’t. In two cases this conglomeration of useless milled about the Kang and returned fire only when their charge was getting blasted to pieces. Being proactive they easily could have moved to engage at a safe distance and things would have been fine. Instead they fought on top of him getting the 2ndary failed in record time and in the first instance eventually ended the pain by completely scrubbing as the Kang was destroyed.

I have difficulty believing anybody is that stupid. The only thing I can figure is they are milking drops from destroyed ships to sell on the exchange. I recognize many drops are junk but if you were to have enough by protracting things eventually you would hit paydirt. Your odds of a marketable find would be at least as good as sucessfully finishing the mission promptly and probably give you a better take if the campers were working as a team and the “dedicated idiots” weren’t damaging your targets and potentially taking a cut from your spoils.

In Cure Space, at least you can end it somewhat quickly but killing a cube… there are such things as successful PUGs, was actually able to get the optional in a CSE the other day. I have found ground STF’s much more difficult than space, even with fleet groups just due to the pains of the mission. With a PUG you are far more likely to run into people that are ill equipped, have no idea how to do the mission or both.

Well, if we’re sharing PuG horror stories, I’ll share my latest one today.

So I get into Khitomer Accord space elite, and this is the team I get:

    1) Me (in my Defiant)
    2) A Tac in a defiant with at least 9 injuries, at least 3 of which are critical (I stopped counting at some point, and he never repaired any of them)
    3) A rainbow beam B’rel Bird of Prey (yes, you read that right)
    4) A hybrid
    rainbow beam/cannon Patrol escort
    5) Some sort of beam Bortasqu

We manage the first part with the gates and probes just fine with me taking probe duty because most of the other folks were just so weak DPS wise, but Donatra was just brutal. No one had a hold skill, so it just took me about an hour to kill her as she cloaked in and out.

At one point I just cloaked and AFKed for 15 seconds to get a drink, and when I came back, my entire team was dead. Throughout this debacle, my team just kept mounting injuries which they never bothered to repair.

That being said, with all the colours flying everywhere it was like I was watching Care Bears explode.

In retrospect, it might have been better to take the leaver penalty right at the beginning.

Wow… I haven’t played KASE that much but have been far more fortunate than you so far.

I thought the colours would make a nice touch 😉

Honestly though, I’ll say 85% of PuGs are perfectly fine, with about 10% being just stereotypically bad (e.g. prematurely destroying the cubes in Cure).

It’s that 5% that become either enraging or confusing. Last week, I was in an ISE PuG with a Tier 2 Nova, and a Tier 2 Saber (They had 15k hull, so not the Fleet versions!). That was just strange. They didn’t die throughout the STF, as they never got aggro (since they put out close to 0 damage)

i was chatting on the fleet channel and wishing i had prepared better for season 6. i was still kind of new so i just had no idea really. then i thought; what about season 7? when will we know what is coming? next time i plan to be ready.

and a question: you can e-mail inventory items to yourself and if so, how long can you keep them? my inventory space is full and i need more room. i may end up tossing a lot of it, but for now, i am not ready to let go of it. i have a perfectly good plasma set so maybe some day they will make plasma weapons better??? 🙂

Speaking of PUGS, I’m a n00b, and I probably always will be due to my limited play time. But the guys in the 44th taught me a lot and when I got a job to do I do it.

Saying that however, I have now stopped running the daily borg encounters due to a complete lack of intelligence with PUGS. I’ve seen PUGS run out of time killing cubes while I tanked two cubes and three spheres and they couldn’t damage anything. I’ve seen them get owned by tractor probes (seriously!) and I’m tired of wasting my time.

The worst part is, I only need 4 of 10 to complete that accolade, and it’ll never get done now.

i routinely work towards completing accolades. on the borg alerts i have been doing pretty well. typically those get finished really fast. i don’t know if it has been awhile since you played and people have gotten better at it or you are just being unlucky and getting bad PUGs.

now that i think about it those that play the vault never seem to get any better, so i’m thinking you are drawing bad PUGs.

For the borg dailies it changes very much on which sectors you hang out in, but then its a matter of getting in before it gets filled I reckon.

Was settling in for an afternoon of FM mission, CSE, rinse, repeat. I really needed that MK XII engine. Ok, need is overstated because the Borg engine is just fine. I just had to have it!

The run failed the optional, though on time only which is ok, everyone did their best. I ran lanes and watched Kang. That much was successful 🙂

We finished without incident, and got the dang Proto Engine the first run. That’s 2 Proto pieces in the last 8 runs… got the deflector last night.

Sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes it eats you…
