i spent yesterday afternoon thinking about which of my ships should be matched up with my new alt characters. i decided to go with a hot vulcan science chick. (Shar’Kali) as you may have guessed, i had no idea that a new alt starts at the bottom. sigh…..
flying around space in my light cruiser was like being in a bucket with a pea shooter. i sent my new sci officer some good stuff, but she can’t use it yet. literally starting over.
anyway, i am somewhat dedicated to playing my klingon character and i plan to commit to having a good science officer. i was thinking of an all vulcan crew, but know i will end up with a borg probably too. still looking for those elusive rare saurians.
i really like the game, but had no idea how much time i would end up playing or the actual cost of a free to play game. of course i spend peanuts compared to the guys that i work with that golf. my wife likes it that i have a hobby besides paying bills.
interesting enough she plays the game and really likes doing the assignments for me during the day which really helps. she is even a characer on my ship. she also likes the freigher because it is so convenient to get around in.
i need to remember to get my alt added….
Yeah, it’s kind of a pain to level up a whole new character. Especially when almost all my time is being used to farm for the base.
I have an engineer at level 25 which I’ve used exclusively to farm doffs and dilithium at Starfleet Academy. The only reason he’s even at level 25 is because of all the XP you get from investigate officer reports and Academy Midterm 102.
I now have two Science Officers sitting around as well. One KDF Female Orion (who’s actually wearing an outfit that can be classified as clothing, just to be different) which will also just be a farm, and one Fed Alien, which I think I’ll build to PvP in a Sciscort.
Also, FYI as a commander in the fleet, you can send fleet invites to people, including your alts.
Yeah, leveling an alt can be a pain on the Fed side. All I can say is the Mirror Event is your friend. When the event is not running, do the story line missions. They give the most XP for time spent (other than officer reports). Just use white gear from NPC vendors. No need for better stuff until you hit lvl 45 when you can do STFs. And even then, just accumulate rare salvage to trade for equipment. Certainly don’t spend any dilithium to gear up.
KDF side is much easier. You start out at level 20. Mirror event here also, but in addition, you can do Ker’rat. At that level, KDF ships dominate the Fed equivalent, and you can pop low level Feds like candy. You earn a TON of XP doing so, and you get dilithium as a bonus for these missions as well.
This is exactly the reason i’ve never invested much time in alt toons, i just couldn’t take having to go through everything again. The worst thing too was when ur silver member all the bank & inventory expansions u purchased do not apply to the alt toons, that really sowed it up for me. So i decided to just concentrate on my main toon and just get it as good as i can. I have invested in many Ship slots & BOFF slots so that i can have separate BOFF’s trained up for the different ship classes. This way when i change ship from escort to cruiser i have seperate BOFFs to assign to the stations so i don’t have to keep retraining.
originally i had no plans for an alt, as well as no plans to spend money on lockboxes. 🙂 so much for plans.
i had decided to get an engineer and sci alt and after getting some advice here i decided to start with a science alt. not sure i have it in me to get the engineer anytime soon.
i figure my klingon and science officer will never reach the same level as Sargon, my tac officer, because i just will not spend that kind of money. i figure the klignon and sci officer will get Sargon’s crumbs.
on my science officer i plan to be strictly science. this morning i was level 19 so if my wife will do enough assignments for me today i should be commander this evening. and best of all get a new ship!! i want that science ship with the globe up front. never had that one.
one nice thing is all the ships Sargon ditched are available to my science officer, once she reaches the appropiate level. my goal is to have one really good ship on the science side and not be like Sargon the ship pig. probably the same on the klingon side.
my science officer is named Shar’Kali, which is the name of one of Sargon’s descendants. for what it is worth Sargon was a great Akkadian king back in BC times in mesopotamia. who says games are not educational. 🙂
