If you are like me you find what you think is a great deal so you buy and the next day they take another % off… I think your current is very comparable to my current – Radeon HD 4850. I don’t have any issues running what I want currently so not really looking to upgrade real soon.
The fan died on my GTX550ti and I had to replace it. Until I could I had to go back to an old GTX8800 and the difference was significant.

The 560 is oodles more powerful than the 250. Googleplexes of infinity better. I have a GTX 570, which I picked up for $250 a year or so ago and have yet to meet a game I cannot max the settings in 1080p. If you only play STO (or most other things), that 560 TI 448 will eat everything alive, for now. Next year after the next-gen consoles have been out for a while I’d expect PC’s will be needing beefier cards, but you wouldn’t have to worry for a long time.
I’d get it if you can, you’d be amazed at what STO can actually look like. 😀

It all depends on what you want to play? If you only playing older games then the GTX 560 will be more than enough to play those. But remember games like STO have never been very well optimised for GPU’s! I run an AMD 7970 and when in STF i’ll get FPS drops down to the 30’s with all the GFX settings maxed out! But single player I get 60fps! Mind you I am using the DX11 Beta option in STO GFX setting. You always want to get the best card you can afford. You would have to run todays AAA games at lower GFX settings to get 60fps on a GTX 560 but it will definitely be a hell of alot better than what you have.
remember Nvidia have the GTX 760 out very soon, I know it will most likely cost twice as much as a 560 but you should look at it as an investment. A 760 would run the latest games at medium – high GFX settings and last you a couple of years. Like i said it all comes down to what you want out of a GFX card? If you’re quite happy to run older games and the latest games at a lower GFX setting then the 560 will do you. But it won’t last as long! The one good thing about the 560 is its supposed to Overclock well! When you say 448 core do you mean shader units? if it is 448 shader units then thats nearly 570 spec! Not bad.
Have you not thought about AMD cards? you might be able to find a newer AMD card thats faster than the 560 for the same price? AMD cards have always been cheaper than NVIDIA with very similar performance. Suppose the AMD equivalent that is a GEN newer than the GTX 5XX series would be the AMD 78XX series.
Anyway just a few opinions! Whatever you do i don’t think you can go too wrong with a GTX 560 for that price! Especially if it does have 448 shader units as the standard 560ti has only 384, so for that price its worth the money. A lot of bang for your buck as they say! lol.
