- Why join the Mighty 44th? I have found myself enjoying my time in STO since quite humbly starting out this fall. I did play some many years ago but to be completely honest, I didn’t really understand the game at that point in time. Perhaps I came looking for more of a World of Warcraft set in the Star Trek universe?
Anyhow, as I find myself returning daily for some time now I have been part of some random fleet that invited me and it being a convenience. I also haven’t ever interacted with the fleet in any way. So, I started out looking for active fleets so that I might get something more out of it. I wanted either to be part of a, or at least find a very young fleet where I could learn more about fleets in a learning-by-doing type of way. However I don’t really know anyone in the game and to start something from scratch is a lot of work that I really can’t put into it.
Therefor I moved more towards what I would like to find. I reached the conclusion that I can do all the perks in whatever fleet, donations and stuff is quite generic independent of what fleet I am in. So I might as well lean on the work of others.
So, after reflecting and considering what I would like to get out being in a fleet I got to something along the lines of: I am curious to learn more about events as right now, to me I don’t know much about it, and it is somewhat a bit of a mystery with a lot of potential. I am also curious at other end-game avenues such as PvE/PvP aspects. But I also feel that I am looking to actually have some social exchange of being in a fleet.
I know, I use a lot of words, but all that said I guess that is the reasons behind my being here writing this. I took all those parts and went to google to try to find a fleet where I can find the combination of traits I identified and the 44th fleet seem to tick the boxes. I might be wrong because I made my mind based on the information available and haven’t spent hours reading through the forums and so on. I did some research and read enough to conclude that I feel that this fleet represents what I am looking for. More than anything I base that from reading the rules and regulations page. From reading through it I found easy to understand, but well structured guidelines for ranks. I also found a clear overview of what the fleet is all about. I also found a short list of well communicated and clear as crystal rules very based in sound values in line with the reason I fell in love with Star Trek in the first place.
- Tell us about yourself: I guess I already have told more than you might care to know in the previous part. I am into Star Trek in general but found it pretty late. I think I started to get into Star Trek when I was in my early thirty’s some 10-15 years ago, (at my age that is no time at all :P), when watching TNG.
I went on watching DS9, Voyager and Enterprise. I then went on to TOS, and I guess I didn’t quite get into it and watched it without really watching it. I have since watched some parts of the different shows, but recently I re-watched Enterprise and just now I actually watched TOS and am at the end of it, some 5-10 episodes still left.
Other than all connections to the game and Star Trek I am a father of 3, and I work as a teacher, teaching game programming at a higher vocational school and have a background in both games and other industries as a programmer. I got the chance back in 2019 to be part of setting up a new location for the school I work at, and jumped at the opportunity. Partly because I always loved programming specifically for games. But another big reason was to get the chance to position myself at a spot where I can offer my experience and knowledge to young people. It is quite rewarding to use my skills and experience to give something to driven, intelligent people, starting their journey towards game development. In contrast to sitting at an office desk pretending that I am still doing meaningful work pleasing some corporate interests I couldn’t care less about, I get to use my time to give knowledge to driven people. Pretty awesome and rewarding.
I am starting to see how I might be lingering that famous over-stayed welcome with all my chattering now. So I wont’ go on and instead say thanks for consideration and you will hopefully have solid information to know how well myself and the 44th would match.
- Do you accept the rules and regulations? Yes
